Well, most "experts" (talking heads) expected the Orioles to lose 100 this year. Even some fans were of that opinion. Statistically, it ain't happenin.'
Here's why: to get to 31 wins, it took 30 losses. In order to lose 100, the next 31 wins would have to come with 70 losses. Put another way, the Orioles would have to play about .300 baseball the rest of the way. Can anyone really see this happening? I could see a month of .300 ball, but 101 games at that clip? No way. I know this isn't much, but it's a horrible figure the O's have all but assured they will avoid.
Here's another thing: The O's have played through most of the toughest parts of the schedule (well, after the upcoming Boston series). We haven't played that well on the road (until this trip), but we've played some of the better teams in the AL on the road, so that makes sense. The rest of June is interleague, and our interleague schedule isn't so bad except for a trip to the Cubs. July is the month of home games, making up for some of these early season gauntlets we've run. Sure, we still have roadies against the rest of the AL East and one more trip to LA...but it's starting to look more like the Orioles will be scrapping to keep their loss total below 80 than 100.

The team will probably still lose 90 games
But, it is a breath of fresh air to see the Orioles with an actual plan thanks to GM finally.
they had been wandering around for 10 years with no direction or long range plan.
Finally, they are full committed to a youth movement for the long term. They finally jetisoned the middling strategy of second tier free agents.
This team might finish in last place in the East, but it will be one of the most successful seasons in a long long while.

AMEN. Things are lookin' good for the future, at not at he expense of the present. I honestly don't think this team will finish more than a couple games worse than last year, and possibly better.

LOL, pitt. I was just talking to a buddy yesterday about how all the "experts" said we were sure to lose 100 or something close to it. Unless the bottom completely falls out (and it could), at this point I think we win 75-80 games.
Personally, I'm hoping for a .500 or slightly better record. Just to shut up our doubters, and shine more positive light on our turnaround. I mean, an 83-79 record would be outstanding IMHO.
We have something like 44 of our last 81 games at home, and I think that the 2nd half schedule (actually, the schedule starting in late June) is much more favorable than what we've played to this point. Again, anything could happen, but I'm going to stay optimistic!

Great post. When the season first began there was a thread that said how many games will the O's win? I predicited 70 games (70-92). I think that this is still possible, but now I feel I under estimated this team (even though the experts said 100 losses). I am feeling 75-80 wins.

I even take umbridge with the thought of us losing 90 games this year! We have a good, young, exciting team. A record of 31-31 is pretty good, and miles ahead of what anyone (besides perhaps Jim Hunter) thought would happen. To lose 90 games, the team would have to go 41-59 the rest of the way. I can't see that happening. Maybe I've drank the Kool-Aid, but I like this team - alot - and look forward to our first winning record in a long, long time!

Well, the O's STILL get no love from the experts who say that there's no way for them to keep playing the way the have...I say...LET THEM TALK...the longer they keep underestimating the O's. the more sh*t they will have to eat when we do finish better than they say we will...

I don't think it will happen, but it's statistically possible - look at the collapse after a great start a few years ago.
