I was one who was upset when the Redskins did not draft a DLinemen with one of there first 3 picks. I thought here we go again the same old front office. Draft offense and neglect our D needs. But since then I have been hopeful on some of the moves they have made, depending they work out. Like Erasmus James, and resigning Alex Buzbee . Here is a good article I came across that talks about just this.

Washington Redskins: In Defense of a Very Offensive Draft

One month after the NFL Draft, some Redskins fans may be left with mixed feelings.

The Skins front office didn't bite on any proposed trades—in the eyes of some, they maximized their draft picks.

On the other hand, the Skins seemingly ignored what is arguably their most palpable weakness—their defensive line.  The Redskins have added marginal talent to their line in recent years (save Andre Carter).

However, their 2008 draft choices may help to quell some of the confusion for Skins fans.

The Redskins added Devin Thomas (possibly the strongest receiver in the draft), Malcolm Kelly (one of the most talented receivers available), and Fred Davis (arguably the best tight end taken).

Durant Brooks, the winner of the Ray Guy Award (awarded to college football's top punter), was also taken in the later rounds.

These picks addressed the team's need for tall, young receivers and a punter that can help improve field position.

The Skins also added youth and talent to their offensive line and secondary with the acquisitions of OG Chad Rinehart and CB Justin Tyron, respectively.

In short, the Skins could have fared a lot worse in this draft.

"Yeah John, but what about the defensive line?"  Okay, I'm getting to that.

With former defensive line coach Greg Blache taking over for the supplanted Gregg Williams, the defensive philosophy shouldn't change that much.  For the last decade, the Skins' greatest weakness has been pass rushing.

Staying true to form, the Skins didn't address this need in the draft.  However, they may have other solutions.

Georgetown University's Alex Buzbee may be a pleasant surprise as a backup defensive end.  The Redskins drafted Buzbee last year but kept him on the practice squad to increase his strength and refine his technique.

But perhaps the most intriguing addition to the D-line could be Erasmus James.

James was chosen by the Vikings as the 18th overall pick in the 2005 draft.  He has shown flashes and has tremendous upside, but his career has been marred by serious injuries.

James was traded to Washington for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2009.  If James doesn't make the 53-man roster, the Redskins won't owe the Vikings anything.

If he can stay healthy and play up to his potential, he may prove to be a tremendous steal.

This move by the front office may indicate the Skins front office is finally moving in the right direction.

Drafting potentially explosive offensive players may allow fans to forgive the Redskins for not pursuing a talented lineman once again.  If the Redskins can maximize their talent potential on defense this season, they may be a force to be reckoned with.

If not, their best defense may be their offense.

Hail To The Redskins!

I think the Redskins did well in the draft. I still think the D needs some help and we are short one good DE in my opinion. I like the fact that we drafted two WR's and yes I was scratching my head when we drafted a TE. I am not against the pick, just thought for sure we would have picked a DE. I am not sure that I am disapointed in the pick though as he was a first round player so we got a very good player and having a second TE with this much potential is not bad at all.

I like that we gave so much to improving the offense and the punter was a smart choice with a late round pick. If we follow the same plan next year and draft smart then I am all for the plan. It looks like to me we are making smart choices and not over paying for what we need.

The trade with the Vikings is a very safe and shows that the FO of the Redskins is maturing in my opinion. I have to say that I have been critical of Dan Snyder and in fact made many negative comments about his management of the team in the past. The last two years I have seen a change, and in my opinoin we are building a team for the long run now.

Hail to the Redskins!!!

Six weeks after and I become more impressed with the draft because of the move to bring in James. The focus had to be offense this draft because that is where we struggled most of the year. Red Zone and putting up enough points for the Defense who kept us in every games. Look back to the playoff games as the biggest example. Defense played great to keep us in the game and we could do nothing until the fourth quarter. Then we had a chance to put it away in the fourth with the ball in the Redzone and came away with no points and gave the big Mo back to Seattle who ran with. I like every move made and with the same defense coming back with the same scheme. I don't think it will hurt us much this year. It also looks like the Skins have a plan when they go out and draft. We needed big receivers and that's what we got. We needed a O-Lineman and pick up one to go with the Heyer so we are making moves slowly to get youth on the line. We still need to sure up youth on defense but now we have a entire draft next year to focus on that and to be honest most of the big name Defensive players we gone by the time it would have come to the first round pick we had so again we made a smart move to trade out and still get who we wanted!  A+ draft to me!
