I read this on thefourthperiod.com, its pretty interesting. Calgary has been looking at Jokanin for a while.
The Flames are among the teams interested in acquiring Olli Jokinen from the Florida Panthers, reports the Calgary Herald.
It has been widely reported that the Panthers have been shopping Jokinen and entertaining offers from other teams.
The Herald suggests Panthers owner Alan Cohen, who in the past has stated that he has no intention of trading his captain, is now ready to sign off on a trade.
Jokinen has two-years and $10.75 million remaining on his contract, and if he's moved, the Panthers would want a first-round pick packaged in a deal.
The Flames own the 17th overall pick in this month's NHL Entry Draft, and while they appear willing to move it, the Herald indicates there are other factors that could prevent the Flames from making a move.
Center Daymond Langkow has yet a four-year, $20 million contract, however the paper claims Flames GM Darryl Sutter has essentially confirmed the signing, which would lift the team's payroll commitment for next season to approximately $50 for 15 players.
The Flames might not have the necessary cap space to take on Jokinen's salary, unless the move a player with a significant paycheck in return -- likely Alex Tanguay, who is apparently willing to waive his no-trade clause.
Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks, Minnesota Wild, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens have reportedly shown an interest in Jokinen.
