We got another PF committed for 2009 today. Brendan Lane (6'9", 205 lbs) out of Rocklin, California practically recruited by every Pac-10 schools. With his long and skinny frame, he plays well in the perimeter as well beyond the arc. Brendan's playing style is very similar to Cal's Ryan Anderson with very descent post up game. He does need to bulk up by the time he arrives at Pauley in 2009. Now, we have 2 PF commits with 2 different styles of play.

hey bruwins

always enjoy your knowledge...yeah, I read the article this morning...good stuff. I live in Folsom and my brother lives in Rocklin...Lane has good game and I agree he needs to bulk up, but has good offensive skills...and like he said, he came to us because of coaches penchant for D.

that makes 2 of the top 4 west coast PF's...

SacRealtor, thanks for the kind word. Drew Gordon and Malcolm Lee were often mentioned to be trying out for US National Under 18 on July 1st through 3rd at Verizon Center in Washington, DC. Reeves Nelson is also at the trials. Usually players played together or against each other at AAU tournaments. Our Bruins recruits play together at either USA Junior National or US National Under 18 (trials). Before they even arrived at Pauley, they'll develop chemistry on the floor already. The outlook of our basketball program is getting better by the day or what?

this is very good news as UCLA continues to pick up top recruits. i think next year we will win the Pac10, but im not expecting another Final 4 just yet. This team will be extremely young, and with all 3 UNC players that had put their names in the draft returning to school now, along with other players announcing their return, there will be some very strong teams in the tournament next year. But this is very exciting news about Lane. He is local to me, and I had not heard anything about him and UCLA, so this announcement is great!

I am up near Rocklin myself so will try to check out a couple games in the coming season. I have not heard much about this kid but I am not an avid high school sports fan so maybe I just missed it.

Here is a nice article from SacBee about Brandon Lane who is in Africa right now playing for US Adidas Nations team. His hard work reputation will fit well in Westwood. He's typical of Coach Howland type of players.

Talk about a typical Coach Howland's player other than being discipline on the floor and top character guys off the floor, Brendan Lane fits this mold. He has a 4.2 GPA and he scored a 5 on the Advanced Placement Calculus test. Qualifying for UCLA won't be a problem for Brendan Lane.
