don't agree with you on Derrick Rose, most people knew him and Beasley were this years Oden and Durant. Taking his team to the National title game sure didn't hurt but im pretty sure him and Beasley were that highly thought of even without it.

Pretty much everybody had Beasley going No. 1 before the NCAA tournament, and it wasn't even a debate. Now, not only is it a debate, but pretty much everybody has Rose going No. 1 ahead of Beasley, and that's based primarily on his performance in March (and April).

Would Rose have been a top three pick regardless?

Yes, I think so.

But the Rose hype machine really started in March, and what he did in the NCAA tournament (against Texas and UCLA, specifically) is was made him the consensus No. 1 pick for most teams. In other words, the March run helped him just like it helped Chalmers, Conley, O'Bryant, etc.

He was highly touted...but there was a pretty big gap between #1 and #2, and Rose closed that gap and in fact, maybe put a gap between himself and beasley. I'm sure Stephen Curry would have won this "award" if he declared for the draft though.

i agree with you Rose was on the National spot light as a Junior in Highschool.  I wish these writers would actually do research before running there mouths.

While I agree with you that Rose has been in the national spotlight for awhile now, and I agree that some writers need to actually perform some research now and then; I agree with Parrish that Rose would not be the likely overall #1 but for his performance in the NCAA tourny against the likes of Texas and UCLA.

I agree with just about everything everyone has said so far, excpet for the OP when they brought up the comparison of Rose/Beasley to Oden/Durant. Beasley got more of the coverage early and then Rose made all the noise in the tournement. Oden and Durant were getting press before their season started and it continued until they were drafted. Everyone pegs Oden as a future Hall of Famer, and Durant is supposed to be incredible. No one has said anything quite that certain about either Rose of Beasley. The way I saw it, early on in the year the focus was on Kevin Love and OJ Mayo, and then it kind of swirled a bit and landed on Beasley and eventually Rose. Not to mention the period of time where everyone was talking only about UNC and Taylor Hansbrough.

But Rose and Beasley are both going to be good. Just not as good as the 1 and 2 picks from last year.

Rose, Beasley , and Mayo were all one and done players. They came to college only because of the rule change
