no doubt, but as for the crime, it probably is no worse than any similar sized city with lots of tourism. Next time your in town, stay away from streets that go by only a letter and that isn't well lit.

you're wrong about the crime. it is well above the nat'l avg. in violent crimes and is number one in the country in auto thefts.
but like you mention, there are tips for safety in any city, including not walking down streets you aren't familiar with after dark by yourself. that's just common sense.
