Three things I want to see from the Jazz over the course of the next month:

1. Use the 23rd pick and both 2nd rounders to trade up to make sure we draft a player who will fit the Jazz system and can help in the near future.

2. Trade or waive Hart and maybe even trade Collins. If we had to keep one, I would rather Collins since he's a big and you can't have too many of those.

3. Go get a perimeter defender through free agency or a trade. Look at Posey for Boston who signed for less than the mid-level exception last year. His defense, energy and hustle was a huge asset for Boston in stopping Kobe. The best option coming to mind is Trenton Hassell from the Nets. He's a great defender who can hit the occasionaly 3. We could probably get him for the expiring contracts of Hart and Collins since the Nets are rebuilding.

Additional dream scenario for me:

Some of you guys have heard this from me before - I hope Utah finds a way to trade AK and his crippling contract. With his contract, it will be impossible to keep the core of the current team together (Deron, Okur, Boozer, Brewer and Millsap). It's trade AK now or after next season lose Millsap (free agent after next year) and maybe Okur and Boozer (both can opt out and look for more money after next season). I would absolutely love to find a way to use AK to trade up to get either Love or Westbrook. Both of those guys would be huge assets for Utah if added to the current lineup.

i COMPLETELY agree with trading up. Our current Jazz team is pretty young and with a young talented team you trade for vetrans not add a ton of picks for rookies. We need a big man inside. And i agree with posey most definatly. however, your last bit of info.. i dont. You cannot get rid of our ONLY real defensive threat in AK. (aside form millsap i guess)  Boozer and Okur watch players get up and down and the court. AK hunts them down and after a bad season 2 years ago out of him. he has picked it up tremedously for this recent season. overall 5 stars cuz i like ur thinkings.. mostly. :)

Saban,

Good possibility I might be in Alabama next fall, won't catch the Tide but may see Auburn play Georgia.  That would be incredible to watch some SEC football.

I think my anti-trade AK resolve is beginning to melt with the rising summer temperatures.  I do like AK so but his contract was a tourniquet that was tied a couple of years ago and although it stopped the bleeding it was tied to tight and now has the potential of constricting the blood flow of our young and improving talent.  If we can trade him and get something in return then I would be for it.  Just don't trade him to anybody in the West.  Could you imagine if he was sent to LA or SA.  That would be so horrible.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out over the next couple of months.  You know the power-brokers in the Jazz front office watched what the Celtics did and would like nothing more to duplicate that formula (who wouldn't), that's the mystery, how do you get the players to commit to that selfless philosophy (Boozer doesn't seem to have that mind-set).

I hear you mlb.  Nothing beats going to an SEC football game, especially to see a rivalry like Georgia and auburn.

As for the Jazz, you are right on.  AK's contract is a problem despite how much anybody may like the guy.  Boozer could be an issue too, especially if he really might bolt after next season.

I'm just ready for something to happen, but I doubt anything will until draft time.

The fact that the Jazz have decided not to host a draft party this year could be a sign that something is coming . . . . . guess we'll just have to wait until Thursday to see . . . the Jazz have always been one of the most tight lipped franchises in the NBA . . . . .

The trade I would like to see leading up to draft day/on draft day is this:

Utah gets: Derrick Mason, Milwaukee (1 yr left), Andre Miller, Philly (1 yr left), 1st rd pick from Milwaukee (8th overall).

Milwaukee gets: Kirilenko and our 1st rd pick, 23rd overall.

Philly gets: B. Simmons, Milwaukee, Price or Almond from us, 2009 1st rd pick (Utah), 2nd rd pick this year (44th, Utah).

This deal for us obviously frees cap space in a year's time to extend DWil and Millsap, but it also gives us a couple of useful players this year to offset the loss of Andrei.  Miller would obviously be a terrific backup option to Deron, and Mason would give us a great perimeter defender and more athleticism.  Of course getting something of value long term from trading Andrei (besides the cap space) comes from the eighth pick, which I would use on Alexander from WV or Brook Lopez if either were available.

Milwaukee possibly does this deal coz it gets the best player in the deal, a guy who could really help them defensively and make it really difficult scoring in the lane for the other team along with Bogut.  Also, they rid themselves of Simmons' contract and still get a 1st rder back this year.

Philly probably gets the worst of this deal, but they do get a young, cheap guard in place of a 32 yr old Miller due for FA in a year.  Unfortunately for them they have to eat Simmons' deal, but maybe a change of scenery does him good.  Also, they have the cap room, so getting two picks to eat the contract seems like a decent incentive to do so.
