When Paul Pierce was at Kansas and the Big 12 came out with its all conference list, Pierce was THIRD TEAM. Roy Williams was so upset he said, "You telling me there are 10 players BETTER than Paul Pierce in this conference?"

Okay, are you telling me there are 26 teams BETTER than the NATIONAL CHAMPIONS? KU lost some serious guns, but they are reloaded. There is NO WAY there are 26 teams better than this team! And there is no way Lousiville is standing in the Final Four, or even the Elite Eight at the end of next season. Pitino is a great coach, but he isn't getting it done at that level any more.

In a word...yes.  Kansas is losing so much that it would be hard to put them in the top-25 right now.  They have a lot of talent coming in, but writers (and voters) rarely give you much credit for unproven potential.  If that potential pans out, Kansas will climb pretty quick.  Until then, just enjoy your ****** ******* national championship (from a Memphis fan).

I think this is about right. I am a huge KU fan but am not surprised. Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich are going to be good. But KU loses Arthur, Rush, Robinson, Chalmes, Jackson, and Kaun!!! That is a major major loss!!! There will be some growing pains. I think this team will fair a little better than Florida did last year and make the NCAA Tournament. But this is about right.

I agree...we've lost too much to be ranked.  Too many unkowns going into the season with only Collins and Aldrich having any real playing time.  Maybe by the end of the season, we'll be ranked...but pre-season?  You just can't do it with a team as young as this one.

Rock Chalk!

This is hardly unprescedented. Last year, neither participant in the national championship game, Florida or Ohio State, were ranked going into the year (I think a few had Florida ranked number 25), I don't think either were ranked at all during the year, and seeing as how neither even made the NCAA tournament, it appears to be the right call. So, yeah, considering how much they lost, it's hardly wrong to move them down the rankings.

When the "real" polls come out I expect we will be ranked anywhere from 18-24 and I think there is a chance we will fall out of the top 25 at some point while our young roster develops against a pretty good non-con schedule.   However by the time conference season starts these Jayhawks will be figuring it out and be very tough to beat.   I am predicting a 5 seed in the NCAA and I have no doubt they will stick us in UNC's bracket so that CBS can sell it as a rematch and the Heels can get their revenge.

Enjoy it though, we are going to be back in the top 5 in the '09-'10 season

This is about the 5th early preseason poll i've seen and the only without KU in the top 20 and even seen them as high as 7th, so most likely it's just this guy is trying to be original like most of these guys. Any way to think a KU team that will 10 deep with talent isn't going to be a top 20 team is WRONG!!! With all the underclassman going pro this should be a down year for CBB as far as top notch teams. I see KU winning between 22-27 games and easily fininishing in the top 20. Anyway who gives a rats ass about these polls.

National Champs!!!!!!!!!!
