When Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez and Ryan Wagner were traded to the Nationals for Bray, Majeski and Thompson, it was panned by fans comparing it with the the Frank Robinson trade of 1966.  Some times it takes years for a trade to pan out.  So far the Josh Hamilton/Edinson Volquez deal looks great for both teams.  Now the Reds have three young pitchers who may fall apart next week, but may help the Reds finally emerge from seven and half crappy years.

Dick Simpson, a throw in in the Robinson trade, was traded for Alex Johnson after 1967.  Johnson was traded for three pitchers after 1969.  One of them was Pedro Borboun.  Vern Geisherdt never pitched for Reds, but was traded with Frank Duffy for George Foster.  Both were on the 75-76 teams.   Clay Carroll was acquired for Pappas in 1968 and was with the Reds through 1975.  So who got the best of the deal in the long run?

Interesting trivia.

Johnson was a batting champion at least once, I recall.
Clay Carroll should be in the Hall of Fame.
