I would say the Mariners are right up there. I think most thought the Angels would win the division but many expected the M's to make a push for the wild card.

And if they all play like Even Longoria has been playing then they will be contending for a long time. Rays are also very young, including their pitching staff, which could give them some trouble in October if they dont collapse

Lots of big surprises this year. In the team category, I would look at the Devil Rays as the big success story. The big flops have to be the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners.
From an individual stand point, how about Josh Hamilton. This kid near drank and drugged himself to death and now he is having a fantastic year. Some people stretch it so far as to discuss the triple crown...not sure I go that far but he is having a great year
