Ok, I know I'm going to catch a lot of heat for this post but somebody has to defend Shockey.
Last year, before he broke his leg everybody loved the guy, probably because we had won 9 games with him in the line-up. So what changed? Shockey has always spoken his mind and we applauded him for it so what's different now? I actually think he has toned it down over he past year or so and is not nearly as vocal as he once was. The only place I hear about him causing trouble is on this site. Can anyone come up with something around the draft ot Superbowl where he said he wanted out? I heard Reese talking about trading him but I didn't hear Shockey say anything? Honestly, if he did don't you think it would be all over ESPN? Bradshaw is doing thirty days and that news is everywhere. I read the article last week about the "heated exchange" at the OTA's but that sounds ike crap. What is a heated exchange? Sounds weak to me.
I'm not saying Shockey is perfect but what's up with all the piling on for nothing? The guys as been on eof our boys since he was drafted so don't we owe him the benefit of the doubt?

Hobo, your last sentence said it all. I personally feel we do owe him the benefit of the doubt. I've always been a Shockey fan since he was drafted...I even got a boxer puppy not too long ago and named him Shockey despite all of the trade rumors and speculation. To me that's what all of this has been...speculation. I'm not a big fan of the he said she said bull s#!%. I haven't heard any reports that quoted Shockey as saying he wants out. I have read plenty of stuff on the front office shopping him around so I can't be too mad that he's a little disgruntled. The way I've been approaching this situation is by reserving judgment and letting it all play out. We'll know more by the time camp starts and there's no use worrying about it now.

Shocey is a great player and does a lot for the team. The only issue I had was last week when he did not attend the practices like the rest of the injured players, it's not like he had to do anything, all that was asked was that he sit there and watch, but for some reason he elected not to do so. I don't know the full story, but Tom coughlin seemed to think he should have been out there. It's just those little ignorant things....all he had to do was sit outside in the sun and watch practice....I do not think that is too much to ask.
Another thing was how he did not attend any of the Super Bowl Celeberation partys, events, etc. That just rubs me the wrong way. I hope he understands he helped us out a lot last year adn although he was unable to play in the Super Bowl, he was def a reason why we were there. We may not have made the playoffs had he been out the whole season so we def have to give him credit in our championship season.
bottom line, he's got a big heart and a big mouth, some people have a problem with that, some don't. As long as it does not effect his teammates I'm fine with him.
Plus I really really reeaaallllyyy want to see a twin TE set with him and Kevin Boss.

Look, when Shockey was first drafted I had high hopes for what he was going to bring to this team. In fact, I still do, but the problem is that his head keeps getting in the way. He has a lot of talent, but he has hurt himself with his actions and the fact that...and I know you have heard this before...he does not train with the team in the off season.
He needs that time to work with Manning. His route running needs to improve and their timing needs to improve. Plus, he needs to stay healthy. My hope is that having Kevin Boss will force him to make some changes. We could have the best two tight end combination in football, but it's all up to him and how he wants to approach this season. News flash..what you have been doing isn't working so try being part of the team!

When he suits up and shows up,we can ease up.There is no need for us to coddle a 28 year old million aire. His ego is bruised ,he needs to get over himself. We all love what he brings to the table.Problem is right now all he's bringing to the table are distractions. His talents are well documented as are his childish behaviors. The fire he can bring to the field is very welcome ,the fire he can bring to the locker room(in a negative way) is not..I too ,like the poster below would love to see a two tight end set of He and Boss.I seriously think all can be worked out before camp! That is if he still wants to be a GIANT?

well i know one guy who isn't gonna be a Giant next season, the hefty lefty is gone! i have to say im happy, if god forbid Eli got hurt last yr he was our backup and i have no faith in his ability to run our offense. Yeah the guy has a cannon for an arm but in the NFL thats not gonna be enough. Take care Jarred enjoy your ring and hey you might want to try the subway diet it worked for your namesake

The Jeremy Shockey Quandry is a prime example of how the media is destroying a great game. All of this began right after week 17, when Tim Hasslebeck, in an interview, said in his words, "I've been in that locker room and I know how those guys really feel about him." It was because of his remarks that the press began spreading the word that Shockey was not wanted in Giants Stadium, and at that point, it didn't matter how unreliable the source was.
When you see sportscasters talking about the situation, they always show videos of Jeremy yelling or throwing his helmet. Well watch those games, and you'll see every one else on the bench doing the same thing. Can we blame the guy for having more passion for sport than some would deem necessary?
Fast forward to after XLII. Sources in Seattle and New Orleans let out that those teams are looking into a pre-draft trade for #80. It wasn't Jeremy out on the soapbox annoucing to the crowds that he wanted out, nor was the Giants front office. But as we neared closer to the draft, the trade rumors sounded more and more legitimate. Not until afterwards did Jerry Reese confirm that Jeremy would be the starting TE.
Through the whole process, there we, the fans. We hear about how the Giants don't want him on the team, he wants a trade, and how he's not even that good of a player. Well if we don't want him, and he doesn't want us, then don't you think it would have been an easy choice for everybody from day 1? The man has played for no other team, but apparently we only accept loyalty from charismatic, gap-toothed, linemen.
