How do you choose players on your All Star ballot? I was talking with a Cubs fan about All Star balloting so far. I asked him about the favoritism towards Cubs this year( Fukudome & Soriano #1,2 in OF,Mark DeRosa over Dan Uggla) He thought it was all fair. Then he told me he voted all Cubs on every ballot he entered. Using 6 different Email addresses he voted 150 times all for Cubs. Said he does it that way every year, he just wants to see as many of "his guys"as possible. After I told him he was an idiot I started to wonder how you guys vote.

First I vote for great players on my team. This year it was Chipper Jones, and Brian McCann.  Both players definately deserve to be at the all-star game.  Then I vote for young players who are doing amazing.  So I went with Yunel Escobar, who happens to be a Braves player. Dan Uggla, and Josh Hamilton (AL but still an example).  Then I choose players I admire and respect.  Like Ken Griffey Jr.  He's almost done, and everyone loves the guy.  I'm not going to vote for Jeff Francoeur this season.  To be honest, he doesn't deserve it.  It doesn't surprise me that a lot of fans only choose their favorite teams players.

I agree w/ larry jones.

I take any superstars on my team. Chipper and McCann

Then I choose whoever is having the best year of the remaining players. Tie breakers go to the Braves or anyone not the Mets or Phillies.

It just seems very childish for anyone who follows the game to vote for the home guys across the board. I couldn't vote Diaz, Kotsay or Kelly Johnson.

Larry, my style is close to yours, lean towards Braves, lean towards classy ageing superstars, but only when it's within reason.

I don't vote because the Yankees could have 20 wins at the break and we would still see 12 Yankees on the AL squad.

Point being, it's a meaningless popularity contest that I don't care for. I watch the games, but I just don't see the point of voting.

I vote for the stats of the current year unless a player was really screwed the year before and is having a similar year in stats.

I agree that's only  a popularity contest but there will always be snubs-- every year someone is deserving and left off. Even when I vote for the Braves I always ask myself  "Is he really worthy ?"

You will always find idiots who vote for only their team-- thankfully they're balanced by truly knowledgeable fans who vote for the best to be there.
