I have said it before and I'll say it again: Marat Safin is the most talented tennis player in the world. When his game is on, nobody, not even Federer can stand a chance on any service.

That said, I absolutely never pick him to win anything because it is so rare to see him not self destruct. I'm glad to see that he beat Djokovic and would love to see him win this tournament because his tennis is just so beautiful when it's on.

settle down there on "most talented player in the world". Nice win today, but his best tennis is clearly behind him. He's a dangerous player but what is his ranking now, in the 80's somewhere, loses to journeyman too often. He is more talented than his ranking but c'mon Roger and Nadal are miles ahead.

He's a mental case. Either he just doesn't want to win or doesn't feel like putting out effort, but you watch. If he meets Federer in the semifinals and he still wants to play, it will be the match of the tournament. I've never been a Safin fan because of all the potential he has wasted (if you could call two grand slam titles and a #1 ranking wasted potential) but I still recognize his greatness on the rare occasion he is kind enough to show it.

Safin shredded my measley $10 ticket on Djokovic to win it all.  A whopping $35 take it would have been. Oh well, I wish him success the rest of Wimbledon.

You should have bet against Davydenko.

When he beat Federer in the semis of the Australian Open a few years ago it was the highest level of tennis I've ever seen.  He played amazing in the final against Hewitt too.

I agree Safin is ridiculously talented and one of those players that could play spoiler against any player at any given time.  However, he is nowhere on the level of a Nadal or Federer.  Those guys are more talented than anybody in the game today, and their talents translate into victories.

I am a huge Federer fan, and I will admit it, the idea of Federer playing Safin in the semis is not a push over at all.  When Safin is playing well he is capable of beating anybody.  That being said, when Federer is playing well, nobody can touch him, not even Nadal.
