There is no guarantee that Booz will stay around after next season, and I don't think Utah has the pieces in place right now to win it next year.

I think Utah could pull a blockbuster if we had the balls.  Imagine this:

Shawn Marion, Mark Blount, Udonis Haslem and pick #3 in the draft

for

Carlos Boozer, Andrei Kirilenko, Jason Hart, pick #23, and both 2nd rounders

Deron, Brewer, Michael Beasley, and Millsap would be the calling card of the Jazz for a very long time, and that core would be strong on both sides of the court. If young players like Almond, Fesenko and Miles emerge and you add in people like Korver, Harpring, Okur if he doesn't opt out, and other additional pieces, then 2009/10 through 2013/14 could be glory days for Utah.

Marion is slightly better than Kirilenko at everything, so we take that swap all day. Haslem is to the defensive end what Boozer is to the offensive end, and Boozer is a player Miami truly covets. Blount doesn't do much for Utah but add a big body, but Miami is desperately looking to get out of his contract.

Not sure that Miami would do this trade, but they'd much rather have Boozer for 4-5 years than have Marion for 1. AK's contract might turn them off, but he has more value than Haslem if Boozer is there. Pick 2 is a lot to give up, but looks like Miami can't decide on a player anyway and Booz is a sure thing. Getting 3 draft picks could entice Miami since it only has 9 players under contract for next year right now.

The financial gain for Utah would be enormous. AK, Boozer and pick #23 would combine to make over $31 million in 2009/10. Marion's deal expires after next season so Haslem, Blount and pick #2 would only be $20 million combined. We'd have the money next summer to re-sign Millsap and start paying Deron's max deal without going over the luxury tax. After 2009/10, Harpring and Blount come off the books adding even more flexibility when we have the Knicks 1st rounder and our own in the summer of 2010. This trade sends the clear message to Deron that this is his team, and I think we all agree that he is by far the most important piece to Utah's future.

This is a very interesting trade.  I would hate to give up AK and Carlos Boozer away in the same deal because then we have hardly any chance of contending for a title this year and will make it tough to even make the playoffs in the ever improving Western Conference.  However, our future should be very bright.  Financially we should be good with DWill, Paul Millsap, Ronnie Brewer, and whoever else needs money.  Would we be able to keep Shawn Marion around because I would like to then be able to keep him as we would be missing AK and Booz.  Also, I like him as a player.  Is Mehmet Okur going to stay with the team?  I think our defense would improve adding Marion and even Michael Beasley (who I really like) and Okur is improving as a player himself so it would be key to keep him around.  The starting 5 would consist of Deron Williams, Ronnie Brewer, Shawn Marion, Paul Millsap, Michael Beasley, or Mehmet Okur would be nice to have, especially down the road.  Now, with Marion and Beasley, would we have a true PF?  Would Millsap continue to start and have Beasley come off the bench?  When Beasley did come off the bench, what do we do then, move Millsap to the 5?  We may be undersized, but with our young guys coming up (Morris Almond, Fesenko, C.J. Miles) our future looks bright.  Adding Michael Beasley, and Shawn Marion would make it even brighter, especially by releasing some financial burdens.  Giving up the draft picks does not worry me too much because I do not think we will be able to keep those players around and we also have 2 first rounders coming our way in a couple of years.  Is this deal worth it?  It sure makes you think and I may even accept it!  By the way, is this deal a real possibility?

I'm not sure if this is a possibility, but I know the following about Miami is true:

  • they are not set on who they are taking at #2
  • they really want Boozer (or Brand) and will pursue him next summer anyway
  • they are willing to trade pick #2 for a proven player to put with Wade
  • they are trying to shed Blount's contract
  • they will want to shed Haslem's contract if they pick up Boozer (or Brand)

With those, why wouldn't Miami do this deal? Boozer is probably better than Beasley ever will be because that is just playing realistic odds on who makes it and how well they do. Plus, Miami would be better suited of a duo of Wade and Boozer rather than Wade and Marion since Boozer can offer a post offense.

If Utah does this, Marion will probably only play with Utah one year. One main appeal is that AK's terrible contract will be shed to afford the promising young players on this team. After Marion leaves, there would be a starting lineup of Deron, Brewer, Beasley, Millsap and Okur and also run a small lineup of Deron, Brewer, Korver/Almond, Beasley and Millsap that could be nasty.

The line-up you mention is very intriuging and could potentially one of the most dangerous in the league if everyone continues to progress.  However, Carlos Boozer could leave next year anyway and Miami could sign him without giving up their draft pick.  Therefore, I wonder if they would make this deal.  However, I like this deal because it gets rid of contracts, we get something for Boozer when we could potentially lose him anyway, and I really like Michael Beasley.  Hopefully our defense would improve with this line-up and I think it would.  I also hope that they are not too small, because what happens if we lose Okur?  Is there any chance that we could keep Shawn Marion around a little longer after his contract expires, because I like him as a player and he defintely bumps up our D one or two notches.  I am looking for a deal to be made because otherwise I fear we will lose Paul Millsap along with the possiblity of not being able to hold onto DWill and Ronnie Brewr, and having Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur opt out of their contracts.  Will this deal crush our title hopes for a year or two and will be be able to strongly contend as these newcomers (if this deal were to happen) progress?  Are the Jazz seriously looking into this deal or any others?

The Problem here is miami is saving money to resign wade in 2010, and hopefully pick up another superstar ish!  Why if that is their plan would they trade marion's expiring contract, in order to pick up Kirilenko's deal that runs past 2010... to be nice, they may want to shed blounts contract, but bad enough to lose marion's upcoming expiring contract, and pick up kirilenkos?  absolutely not!  The problem is as fans of teams we don't look at realistic trade possibilties, we fathom them as we want to benefitting our team more than the other!  It doesn't work that way, there is no chance Miami is taking on Kirilenko's contract... 0.. they would rather wait it out with blount so they have again more flexibilty to sign wade and another star!  looking at the first 4 names you put the Jazz having if this trade does go through...Deron, Brewer, Beasley, and Millsap none of these guys are over 6'7", hoow does this help our case when we play l.a. next year with bynum and Gasol in the post?  As Bill simmons says beasley will get you 25 and 10 but also give up 20-12!  Finally reguardless as to whether we did this deal or not, we are going over the cap when we sign williams this offseason, look at the numbers it's inevitable, no matter how you look at it, we will be at least 5 million over!  The only feasible trade that could happen with miami and us is boozer for either Marion and change, or boozer for Mark Blount and beasley!  I really don't think they'll do the marion deal, apparentely it's being talked about, but it doesn't do anything for us, so it's doubtful!
