I just saw on ESPN that Baron Davis is not going to opt out of his contract and the Pistons are interested in getting him for Sheed and Chauncey. Im not sure if I like it or not, but I was wondering what you guys thought.
Im not sure if that is the whole trade...there may be some other pieces included but I still dont see how this helps the Pistons. Baron is in the last year of his deal and he is a guy that isnt always healthy. I dont think I like this deal.
This trade is simple: get rid of two high priced athletes in exchange for one. The Pistons are probably concerned about paying for Billups for 4 more years with his injury situation. I don't see Baron Davis being in the long range plans for Detroit because of his attitude and durability, but this trade would free up room to pickup a Jermaine O'neal or similar big dollar FA and Davis has only one more year left on his contract. Rip and Teyshawn are the heart and soul of the team and the Pistons need to find the best pieces to fit around them.
Disclaimer: This is coming from a Magic fan who does not want this trade to go through. Gives the Pistons too much upside in the near future.
I don't like it. Chauncey is the best player on the team and he and Richard Hamilton both said they want to retire as Pistons. Rasheed NEEDS to go, until he leaves we won't get past the Eastern Conference Finals. Tayshaun is showing signs of inconsistentcy and I fear that he could bring us down. We could trade Tayshaun and Sheed for Davis and move Rip to Small Forward. Then we can get an Elton Brand or Jermaine O'Neal in free angency.
The deal includes Golden St. sending Detroit Al Harrington as well. Still, I would rather see the Pistons move Billups for a SF/PF/C instead. That way, Stuckey can be the starting PG, yet would still be the 3rd or 4th option.
This trade might actually go down. Monta Ellis could take over at PG for Golden State and Baron Davis actually makes sense for the Pistons. Billups and his injury are a concern and Sheed talked his way out of Detroit. You guys should look into signing Brand too, to provide a post presence. But he might be a little undersized. Hope the Pistons meet my Celtics again in the Conference Finals again.
