I'm sure the Brewers are only "in on Sabathia" to up the price for us Cubs.
Ya think? Perhaps the Brewers should announce publicly that they have no interest in Sabathia to make it easier for the Cubs?
Anyway, that statement is only partially correct. The Brewers are "in on Sabathia" because they have a legitimate chance at aquiring him. As an extra added bonus, it would keep the Cubs from aquiring the best SP available (assuming he is even available). The Cubs would then be relegated to options like Burnett (unispiring) and Rich "Ben Sheets West" Harden both of whom will garner competition from the other top teams in the race who also can put together better packages than the Cubs can. You better hope and pray you CAN get a pitcher instead of thinking you have your pick.
Something brewing: Here at World Rumblings Headquarters, we're hearing the same noises that our buddy Buster Olney has been hearing -- that the Brewers loom as one of the most serious potential bidders on Sabathia, even if he's just a rent-a-starter. The Brewers have a deep system. And principal owner Mark Attanasio has made it clear to his baseball operation that it's time to go for it. So if Sabathia winds up somewhere other than Milwaukee, said one baseball man who has spoken with GM Doug Melvin, "it won't be because they're afraid to give up their prospects."
