"If the Cubs had played the same teams the Cards and Brewers had played, then they'd know they were going to be in trouble when the schedule balances out."

Yeah, Yeah.  If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.  The Cubs had a bad series and it will happen from time to time.  The thread starter feels the need to bash the entire NL based on 1 series against a top team.  If the Orioles beat the Red Sox 2 of 3 does that mean the AL sucks too?  You played well and handed the Cubs their a$$ this series. Good job, and move on.  I'm not sure who still considers them the worst team in baseball, because whoever it is hasn't seen the Nationals and Mariners play.  You are over .500 in a tough division.

I'm sick of hearing the Cubs haven't played anybody good yet, and I can't wait to get into the Cardinals and Brewers series.  Even if we sweep the White Sox again this weekend the Cubs won't get any respect.  So, my fellow Cubs fans, from here on out just ignore the ignorant posts that flood these boards every time the Cubs lose a game.  Let the final positions speak for themselves.

allsports56, classy posts.

I just don't understand why someone rooting for a 4th place team has to come in and go "Na na na" like a 2 year old. I (or most Cub fans I assume) have nothing against Baltimore, and when they aren't playing the Cubs I certainly don't root against them. One thing is for sure - if the tables were turned and the Cubs were a .500 team and the O's had the best record I sure wouldn't start a thread like this....

I don't disagree with you, but I'm hardly over here gloating.  I just don't need to hear anything vastly negative - the same way you don't - after such a nice series win.  And FWIW, I don't really buy into the whole "4th place team" thing.  Seattle is also a 4th place team.  Record ( look at the total in the loss column of the teams in the division) and the direction of a team trump its place in the standings every day of the week.  You're certainly entitled to your opinion of MacPhail; but he has alreday turned the O's around dramatically in about one year and fans here have nothing but respect for and faith in him.

I don't think O's fans are rooting against the Cubs - the Yanks and Red Sox maybe (lol) - but not a good NL team.  I wouldn't have started a thread like this either, but you and I both agree on posting to defend our team.  And good luck to the Cubs, by the way.  No way I want to play them again this year because I'm sure we'd get paid back.

And the Cubs' win/loss record against the O's = 1-2.  What exactly was the point you were trying to make?

Wow, so when the score became 6-4 in the middle innings of the second game, that isn't "keeping it close?"  Must be new math.  And it is rather humorous how we get to hear about Sean Marshall in his first start after being recalled from the minors, but we neglect to hear about Matt Albers pitching on an hour's notice because the scheduled starter was puking.  Guess that was just an oversight, right?

As for the silly nonsense of out-hitting 33-30....One team scored 22 runs and won twice, the other scored 16 runs and won once.  One team had 48 total bases on 30 hits and won twice, while the other team had 43 total bases on 33 hits and lost twice.  Give me 48 and 30 over 43 and 33 any day of the week.

BTW, Troy had a better won-lost record last year (8-4) than South Carolina (6-6) or Alabama (6-6).  So they have been a better team, right?  Because their won-lost record was better.  Right?

The NL is the Sun Belt conference of baseball.

Best team in the NL...? LOL...Says who...?
