He's not old, which fits with our team.  He had a 4.7 ypc last year, very good.  The thing is, with Charles, do we already have enough tail backs?

Steelers cut Davenport after failing to trade running back

After shopping running back Najeh Davenport in hopes of a trade, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now released the six-year veteran.

The Steelers, who feature Willie Parker as their starting running back, had also acquired running backs Rashard Mendenhall -- their first pick in the 2008 draft -- and free-agent Mewelde Moore, making Davenport expendable.

Davenport rushed for a career-best 499 yards with a 4.7 yard-per-carry average last season. He played with the Green Bay Packers from 2002-05.

Pittsburgh had been contacting teams to determine trade interest before Davenport's release, according to a source who spoke to ESPN.com's John Clayon.

Davenport, who will still be paid $1 million for the 2008 season, was in the final year of his contract with the Steelers.

chief fan....interesting, and maybe, depending on the $$$. with LJ's nagging injuries, what could it hurt, providing it doesnt cost too much. most teams could use a veteran back, just in case.

iho....

I'm not saying it would be a bad move, if he didn't demand much money, but I'm not sure it's necessary.  We actually have pretty good depth at RB, with LJ, Kolby and Charles.  Of course two of them aren't yet proven, and we will have to see how Kolby can do with hopefully an improved and more cohesive offensive line and with Chan's offense.  Charles is a speedster, in fact , Herm said he's had to slow him down at times, but I don't know if he is good between the tackles or just an outside threat.

Yeah your right, I just wonder if Herm will keep 4 running backs on the roster.  I wonder how Davenport would work at full back?  I think he's got some size, could also be a reciever out of the backfield.  Just a thought, not likely going to happen.

Herms eye is on Kolby, he said he was impressed with him at UL and he lost out to Bush becuse he was hurt. Thats why the Chiefs took him because he's a the kind of player Herm like's. I still say if LJ fails to show the goods he's gone. I live less than 10 miles from UL and though Bush is local favorite he couldn't beat out Brohm(also from Lou. ) for starting QB so switched to RB. Not saying Bush isn't good runner but not in Kolby's class. Last yr Kolby had some good games but still got to have someone to block for you. So if LJ doesn't give the goods Kolby and Charles will be the starters IMHO. Remember after last yr was over CP said the CHIEFS couldn't trade LJ till this season was over because of his contract. LJ's trying to show he's a team player now for first time since they drafted him cause if he falls there's at least 2 that will take his job. I  really hope he 's 100% and will return to 06 ability or he'll be the experianced backup.

GO CHIEFS IN 08!!
