Pedro had a solid start but I have to agree that having El Duque, at least to come out of the bullpen, can't be a bad thing. It showed last night that that our bullpen is still inconsistent. They have shown they can pick it up and pitch 5 scoreless innings, but they can also nearly blow a 10-2 lead.

As much as I want to have hope for Armas I think his days are numbered. He seems to have a lot of trouble getting outs and his arm strength is never going to be what it used to be.

Well, I stand corrected. I guess Pedro might actually have something left. Hopefully if he stays healthy he can eventually become more than a 5-inning pitcher, but still last night was something to build off of at least.

If Pedro really can give them anything the rest of the way, that would be HUGE for this team.

I'm not saying Pedro is going to return to old form, but coming off an injury to have a shortened spring training.  Then just as he was starting to get his groove, gets injured in his first start.  Missing another couple months, and rushes back into action.

Spring training is a time that pitchers fine tune their pitches, and find their accuracy.  Pedro had to use a couple starts to do that.  Hopefully he is on his way.  As has been said - his velocity and arm strength look fine, and thats an encouraging sign.

If we can get keep 6-7 innings out of the other four starters we can carry Pedro when we need to.  Only before his last start did he say he was feeling like his arm was back to end of spring training good.  Pedro has shown more velocity these days.  This leads me to believe he has some better days coming.  Is he going throw a no-hitter, probably not, but can he get back to throwing 7 innings I can see that

It would be nice to see Pedro get back to 7 innings, if not maybe that would be a good spot for Duque, just put him in tandem with Pedro.  Pedro can go 5 and Duque go 3-4

Whats the point?

1.  El Duque can pitch out of the pen and get batters out from BOTH sides of the plate.  Something Heilman....Smith, Feliciano, Schoe, etc. have all been unreliable at.  This is exactly what the Mets need (acutally the second thing, behind another bat in LF)

2.  Lets say El Duque pitches long relief.  Wouldn't it be nice to have a guy on the roster in case of injury to Pedro or in the playoffs considering he's one of the ALL TIME best at pitching in the post-season.

If El Duque is healthy he is going to be really help this team, no matter what role he gets.
