1st off Volsfan, Michael Vick lied to the commish, yes. flipped off fans, yes. and smoked weed, yes. But does that make him a thug? Hell no. I live in Atlanta, you wanna see a thug go to Bankhead, go to E Ponce, go to Brockett Rd. Michael Vick, I repeat, Michael Vick is not a thug, quit watchin rap videos and look for a better definition of a "thug". Everyone lies, everyone at one point or another covers there tracks when theyve done something wrong and they are tryin to cover it up. And people any and everywhere smoke weed!

But let me clear some things up for u even further. Vick getting caught with the weed was a legal loophole, by getting caught for it and being labeled as "depressed" he is in turn entered into a drug rehab program that if he has good behavior can knock off a year of his time, so it was actually a good move by his legal team. And him flicking off the fans. I was at that game, it was actually Saints fans that were bothering him, not Falcons fans. Saints fans were bothering him the entire second half whenever he came off the field, combine that with his growing frustration with the teams inability to move the ball when he did just about everything he could (Roddy White thanks...). And those same fans bothering him and cursing him all the way to the tunnel, where he then did his deed. Vick may have been superman on the field but he's human like you and me. H e was frustrated, bothered, and annoyed. Even though its not excusable what he did, I can certainly understand why after seeing that display.

nsbradley, yes Vick deserves his jailtime (Im gettin tired of repeating myself). But yes this is too much over some dogs. Losing millions (to the point of being "bankrupt"), your job, your rep, on top of jailtime (2 years, for a crime thats punishable by 1 year in jail and probation) is too big of a price to pay for what he's done.

Dog Fighting is immoral, and down right wrong. But make no mistake that this is too much, if they got him for the gambling and rackettering then I would have no complaints...but they didnt.

You can't equte the life of a human's to an animals...PERIOD!

AtlJames, I don't want you to think I'm slamming you for your personal opinion, something you are clerly entitled to, but it seems to me that your the only person equating animals lives to humans.  Everyone else appears to be saying kill that many humans you should be put in jail for the rest of your life.  Majority of us are saying 2 years for all the dogs he brutaly killed is fine.

The thing I don't think you understand is, the millions of dollars he is losing is contract money (why should the Atlanta Falcons pay someone millions of dollars if their going to spend the years he's supposed to pay behind bars) and sponsors (why should Nike, Gatorade etc. pay someone millions who is going to bring negative spotlight on them.  The economy is hurting bad enough already).

And your actually help proving my point.  Your saying he was not charged with gambling, when if they already admitted, if they pushed for it they very easily could have had him for illegal cross state gambling and perjury.  Yet because he is a professional athlete, they went extremly easy on him.

Myself and anyone else who works in the office enviroment can most likely vouch that if we ever got caught what Vick did, not only would we lose our job, we would lose our chances for ever getting a decent job in the future (all job applications state on them "have you ever been convicted of a felony").  We would be stuck working at McDonalds until our dying day.  Vick however, will go back to playing football somewhere and still retire with Millions of dollars.  Saying he's being treated unfairly is total BS.  He has been given a golden road compared to what the average American citizen would have been put through.

atljames,

You keep repeating the same things over and over again in spite of the facts that are right in front of you.

First off you said,

Losing millions (to the point of being "bankrupt"), your job, your rep, on top of jailtime (2 years, for a crime thats punishable by 1 year in jail and probation) is too big of a price to pay for what he's done.

Where did you come up with the statement that his crime was punishable by one year in jail?  According to an article in SI.com by Michael McCann (currently a visiting Law Professor at the Mississippi College School of Law) Vick could have faced up to 60 months in jail for his crimes.  Here's a link:

sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ
ers/michael_mccann/12/10/vick/index
.html

In addition, Vick's legal team agreed to a plea bargain that included 12 - 18 months of jail time, so it is clear that even his defense team recognized that he would have to spend time in jail.

Why did Vick get 23 months in jail instead of the 12 - 18 months that was put into his plea agreement?  His own stupidity and lack of truth in front of the courts.

1) He violated his pretrial release that required him to refrain from the use or possession of unlawful narcotics.

2) He didn't accept full responsibility for his crimes.  He did not admit being personally involved in the dog fighting operations - yes, including killing dogs - in spite of evidence  including testimony from his co-accused, that he WAS directly involved.

Read the following comments from the judge in the case:

sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story

That is the reason the judge added 5 months to the joint Defense/Prosecution submission for the plea agreement.

And again, you state,

You can't equate the life of a human's to an animals...PERIOD!

Once again, Vick's punishment fits his crime.  The legal system did not equate a dogs life with a human life.  If you want to argue this point with PETA, feel free, but Vick is NOT a victim of cruel and unusually punishment.

Again, when he has completed his sentence - he has to serve at least 85% before he will be eligible for parole - he has every right to try to continue his career and try to recoup the millions he lost because of his own mistakes.  But again, he is not worthy of anyone's sympathy.
