The Mets have won again tonight against Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants. Lincecum gave up an early 3 run bomb to Carlos Beltran and Mike Pelfrey did the rest.
Couple that with a 2-0 win from the St. Louis Cardinals over the Philadelphia Phillies(who are struggling mightly at home) and the lead in the NL East is now down to 1 1/2 over the Mets from the Phillies, with the Marlins 1 back before tonights game in San Diego.
And only 1 in the loss column.
After losing the first game of a double header on June 15th to the Texas Rangers the Mets were 7 1/2 games out. 22 Games later they are down to 1 1/2.
Lets Go Mets!

With all the Rays talk over the Yankees and Sox and the Trades of Sabathia and Harden to the NL Central the Mets have quietly stayed under the radar and have played their best ball of the season.

More importantly... 59 hits in 4 games, hitting with RISP... the offense is rolling, Perez/Pelfrey are rolling... life is good in NY... finally.

We are starting to see some great signs. The greatest one being, After winning a great comeback series against the Phillies, the Mets win against a great pitcher in Tim Lincecum.
Don't look now Phillies fans, BUT THE METS ARE ONLY 1 1/2 back...
Lets Go Mets!

Ozy,
First you have to change your avatar back to a Pro-mets one.
Secondly, lets not get ahead of ourselves just quite yet. With Church on the DL and the status of Alou unknown, the Mets have to make a move for a more prominent bat in the OF. The Mets can't rely on Chavez and Tatis being the way they have been lately.
However, the most important thing is Reyes, Wright and Beltran crushing the ball and Damien Easley who is very underrated as a hitter. And Delgado with 16 HRs.
But the starting pitching is rolling , which like you said is very important.
There is light at the end of the dreary tunnel the Mets have been in since last September.

The bigger two games are still to come. The Mets play well against the good teams or pitchers (Lincecum). Teh question is will they show up the next two days.
The eternal pessimist in me is still worried.

Normally i would be too. But the way Santana has pitched lately and the fact he hasn't gotten a win makes me think he will be very dominant tomorrow night and the Mets will win their 5th straight.
I have never been more confident in this Mets team this year than they are right now.
