I read a report that the Leafs (why not Leaves?) were looking into acquiring Ken Holland from Detroit.
I would love to see my 2nd favorite team benefit from his ability, but that would rip my beloved Wings to teh core. Everyone said Detroit would be scewed after the lockout with a salary cap and one President's cup later and we are still going strong all thanks to Holland.
I desperately need Toronto to be a powerhouse again and for Detroit to one day be put back in the east where they belong. You fans have no idea how lucky you are to be in your division. If i have to watch another Nashville or Columbus game I am going to carve my eyes out.
I think it is unlikely he will be moved, but there will never be a better opportunity to take the reigns of a great organization in Toronto than now.
sorry if he goes, but the Lefs need someone of his caliber, just hope they make him the right offer, again sorry if he leafs Detroit ,They will move on and still be a powerhouse team, and as for seeing them in the east,i hear you,i would be carving my eyes out too...
Why would he want to leave Detroit for Toronto. I find that hard to understand. The wings looks solid, he should wait until the wings look like they are going to turn down a bit. He is still young, why not enjoy the fruits of his labor. What if he cannot turn the leafs around? wont that tarnish his rep? I think for Burke it makes more sense, anaheim are going to have a tough time in a few years. Detroit look like they should do well for several more years.
Burke would work too, they need new scouts, and a better developmental system, and stop trying to buy a winning team by over paying the wrong players,i would be happy if any gm came in and even if it took a few years, build from young talent, develop the players, and have few vets to lead by example. But keep Sundin, let him retire as a Leaf...
Holland already went public and said he has no interest in leaving detroit at all. So did assistant g.m jim nill, who toronto also showed interest in, and jimmy develano as well... the only one that wanted to go if the price was right and if he would have all the power was bowman, but toronto turned him down....
People forget burke also went public, saying something like, and i'm paraphrasing here, ,,,, " why won't people stop with the rumours? I love anaheim, my family loves it here, everything is going great, the money is excellent, i have no interest in going to toronto"?
Let me tell you what I think the problem is and why toronto will be fortunate if even cliff fletcher stays on after this year, let alone burke or especially holland. The toronto Maple Leafs are just one piece of a multi billion dollar puzzle,, mlse ... they are run by a board of governors that has no intention of EVER letting somebody come in and make major decisions without clearing it with them.... end of story
Prominent general managers are not going to leave prosperous and successful positions where they have all the power in the world to go to toronto. Would you?? They will be hounded every single day by the most aggessive media in hockey. They will be held responsible by everybody involved yet not have the ability to make the decisions that will help the franchise succeed....
Being a religious follower of the redwings, I know a few things. I know that holland does as he pleases at all times. He only consults with ilitch in regards to finances, if necesssary, but ilitch NEVER tells him what to do. I haven't even heard of one potential move vetoed by ilitch in years. The only exception was when bowman considered trading stevey yzerman years and years ago.......... ilitch told him to shut up and that was it,, but other then that, holland does as he pleases.
Now, there is something that can change all of the above. Rumours had it a billionaire , I forget exactly who now but it wasn't a secret, was talking to lawyers and banks about putting an offer in for mlse... if that happens, and it could considering the investors would be more then doubling their original investment, then all bets are off. A new owner with billions in investment would very likely not only pay holland handsomely but also give him full reigns.....
I will continue to pray that doesn't happen . Although the wings have an unreal foundation and a team of experts that would help the next gm greatly I would hate to see holland leave......
There has ben ridiculous amount of rumours over every good gm in the league that they would leave their good team to go to a team trying to rebuild. Holland, Burke, and Jim Rutherford have been the main rumours even though they are under contracts with their other teams
