Well I think it is safe to say that it will come down to these two kids for the National Player of the Year. Only question is, who walks away with the Hardware?
Both are worthy of the award. But only one can win so who do you think is National Player of the year?
My belief is that Hansbrough will win. 1) He plays on the East Coast where most of the voters are. 2) He has carried the team on his back, in a tougher leauge, with a far tougher schedule. 3) HIs numbers while not as high as Beasley's, are consistent and impressive.
I think that if Beasley had played with a tougher non-conf schedule, and K-State had avoided the late season stumble he would have it all wrapped up. Unfortunately for him Hansbrough got the advantage of playinig in a pivitol and influential game for his last game of the year, not to mention the National Audience to play in front.
Not that he doesn't have a good shot though.

I'm not buyting the ACC is a tougher conference, but I do think hansbrough wins because of the other 2 points you made. And because he just plays on a higher profile team. I think KSU had a relativly hard non conference schedule. We played Oregon who was #17 at the time we played Noter Dame who is now ranked a 2nd in the Big East. Goerge Mason is not a push over and Xavior is a top 25 team as well. The problem is that all those teams we lost to so that does not help Beasley's case much.

Well, Michael Beasley has also carried his team on his back. Beasley has also carried a much bigger load. I'm sure that it can get difficult playing with all those Mcdonald's All-Americans.
Is Hansborough a great player? Yes. But the Best player has definitely been Michael Beasley. It isn't the Best Team Award, or the Best Player on the Best Team Award, its the player of the year.
With all that being said, I think Hansborough will win the award. I don't think he deserves it anymore than Beasley, but I think that he will win it because he is on one of the best teams in the nation.

Depends on which game you're watching. Dicky has Tyler winning and that's all that matters to the national media. They'll all pile-up behind that ass-clown.

K-State had a much tougher non-conference schedule than you might think. The problem was they didn't win the games against the tough opponents. Oregon, Notre Dame, Xavier, and George Mason are all well established teams going up against a first year coach and a bunch of freshmen. All with the exception of Xavier (another game where Mike was in foul trouble early) Mike played great.
People try to say Tyler had to carry his team when Lawson was out with injury, well I'm pretty sure that Mike has played without Lawson for most of the year also. I'll have to check on that though.
Besides I'd rather "Be like Mike" then "Reach for the Tyler." Wouldn't you?
Here's a query...If Mike came back next year and put up the same numbers, then would you say he'd get the trophy?

There is no doubt watching the two play, Beasley would make Tyler look like a 7th grader. No way Tyler is a better all around player, and you know he shouldn't win the award when coaches have to go campaign for him. The Big 12 has the #1 RPI in the country, so he's went against the best teams, and he scored 33 on KU. There is no doubt he is the best PLAYER. But he's not on the best TEAM or in the area w/ all the politics, so he will not get it. Gotta love the Business of College Basketball.

Throw out what any player has done in previous years. The award is for Player of the Year...not career.
And don't factor in who will be the better pro...shouldn't matter for college POY vote.
Hansbrough plays with better level of teammates. That may take away from his numbers, but it also allows him to play without 2 or 3 defenders hanging off of him.
Beasley has the advantage of being the go to guy, but he is constantly surrounded by the defense.
They are both great college players. Both can rebound and score.
I give the edge to Beasley because he can go outside and shoot. Hansbrough can't do anything offensively outside the lane.

I've seen Hansbrough hit plenty of shots outside of the lane...
