This deal saves the Cardinals a lot of money, particularly this season dropping Fitzgerald's salary from close to $17million down to $8 and gives them room to get some free agents to help better the team. It is good to see Larry saw the needs of his team and restructured a deal that still takes care of him financially while allowing his team a chance to get better. Nice to see a superstar the caliber of Fitzgerald take the high road.

I agree.Nice to see that there are some players willing to put the team first instead of dollar signs.

I agree but it should have been done sooner to help the team at the beginning of the FA period.
Here in Tampa we have seen Derrick Brooks and Ronde Barber, as well as others over the years, restructure deals to benefit the team. It is nice to see as long as the team holds up its end and tries to get better. It is part of the reason Tampa has maintained a real good defense for over a decade with very few lapses.

That is good for the Cards they kept Fitz but I want the Eagles to sign Bryant Johnson. They need a guy with that kind of size.

I agree. In a few years if Larry is still with the team, let's see if the Cards turn the favor and keep him instead of deciding he is not worth it considering how much he saving them now.

I agree, this will be huge for the Cards once the deal is finalized. Fitzgerald knows the team has a lot of potential and every year we all say this is the year the Cards will make a run.
Maybe the unselfishness of Fitzgerald will lead to a few FA signings and a good draft. Getting another stud on the OL will be key for them and possibly getting one of the many quick backs in this years draft. Some should fall into the second round that show potential.
I'm not a Cards fan, but I know they lost some close games last year. They might be one or two pieces from making the playoffs.

I agree. A lot of the top receivers in today's game would have demanded the final two years of his contract or to be traded. With the 15 mil bonus he is supposed to get he will still be making like 17 mil this year. It is great to see a player who loves the game get paid and at the same time help his team out so they can all benefit. Can you imagine TO in this situation?! He would have shipped out so fast or would have ran his mouth off until they did trade him. Although it would have been nice to get this done earlier, say before Calvin Pace signed with the Jets, but it now gives the Cards some breathing room in the cap to make a move or two if they so desire. Real glad to see this go down.

I agree JBANK, not too often do you see finances pushed to the back burner. Money too often breaks up teams, and their chances of winning the Super Bowl because of selfishness.

SUPERSTAR?!? I don't think so. He has had 3 very good years, and they were his 1st 3 years in the league. But again, he plays for AZ. ANY decent rcvr. should be able to pile up stats there, since they are ALWAYS behind! I don't think he has led the league in receptions or yardage any of those years. Again, he is a very good, maybe great reciever, but NOT a superstar...Also, it would have helped the team more if they could have gotten this deal done before free-agency started, not 2-3 weeks into it. Instead, he held the team hostage while most of the free-agents, incl. the Cardinals own, went elsewhere. We'll see who the Cards are able to pick-up from the scrap heap, or if the cheap azz Bidwill's just keep that extra cash in their pockets....

It must be nice to take a pay cut from $17 million to "only" $8 million. With a move like that it proves that the Cardinals are at least better than the Lions as an organization.

personally , i don't think he should have. he was due to earn that money because of his performance and escalators in his current contract increased his salary. how many times do we see franchises "take the high road" ? teams will dump someone in a heartbeat to save money, yet they want this guy, who earned his high slary because of his performance, to restructure his deal. I agree fitz is a real pro but i don't believe the team would have done the same for him. players are thought to be bad guys when they ask for more based on their performance, but when they perform teams don't want to pay them the real money.

Yes, now the Cardinals have an extra $9 million to spend on...umm...well...let's see...there's got to be someone out there?
Timing is everything... in this case the deal was struck too late to help the Cards do anything but purchase free agent leftovers.

As a Seahawks fan I hate this deal, because I think the Cards are the only team in the NFC West that will challenge us for the top spot this season. That is a great charactor move on the part of Fitzgerald to take such a big paycut in order to help his team out. He is a monster receiver, easily top 5 in the NFL and a great weapon along with Bolden. If you guys can get some consistancy at the QB position this should be a good competitive year for you guys.
I look forward to a couple really good division match ups between the Hawks and the Cards this season.

Fitzy is a beast, whoever thinks he isn't dosen't know football.
This guy has Randy Moss physical ability. One of the guys said he never lead the in receptions actually he did in 2005 he was tied with Steve Smith for the lead.

Great news!
I'm glad that Larry Fitzgerald is demonstrating that he is a team player and not a me-first kind of athlete. Now, let's see who the Cardinals use that extra cap space on...
