It is unfair, but it's not because Calipari wanted it that way. It's revenue, plain and simple. No other team in the conference has an NBA arena and can draw like Memphis and is centrally located. Closest alternative is Tulsa, but that would be too close to the Big 12 tournament.
It's a shame CUSA was split up, because back when it was Louisville, Cincy, Marquette, Depaul, Memphis, etc., it was actually growing into a power conference. As it stands, all Memphis can do is schedule tough out of conference and win all the games they are supposed to win. They played like a 1 seed all season, and now we'll see how they do in the tournament.
