Congratulations to the 16 competitors remaining in the Member Mayhem field!

In this round, members will have a maximum of 250 words for their essays. The question: Which player has been the most valuable to his team during the 2008 NCAA season? (Keep in mind, this player does not have to be on the team you represent.)

Essays are due at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Once again, good luck to the remaining few!

I believe the player who had the most to do with their individual team making the tournament has to be Stephen Curry. A bit of an “unheard” at the beginning of the year from the Davidson Wildcats, he has been the glue that’s held this team together which people are starting to see in the tournament. Curry is averaging 25.5 points per game while shooting an incredible 49.1 % from the field. Also, Curry is a very reliable player. He has played in every single game both this year and last playing nearly 33 minutes. Another important thing Curry can do is shoot FREE THROWS!!! This is a place where so many players hurt their team. Curry is shooting an amazing 89%. Not only did Curry have an amazing regular season leading his team to the tournament, but he has actually stepped up his game in the tournament. So far in two games Davidson has played this year, Curry has gone for 40 points against Gonzaga and 30 points against Georgetown while sinking 5 big free throws at the end of the game. Not to mention in his first NCAA tourney game last year he also dropped 30. So in three tourney games, Curry is averaging an amazing 33 points a game. Curry has also scored double digits in every game this year. Without Stephen Curry, the Wildcats of Davidson would not be near where they are as a program.

Well...I was going to use Stephen Curry, but it appears it has been chosen.  Good choice, I will have to do a new essay now. Sorry gents.

The question: Which player has been the most valuable to his team during the 2008 NCAA season? (Keep in mind, this player does not have to be on the team you represent.)
My counter-part offered you a great player in Stephen Curry, a wise decision, as his success has made Davidson one of many Cinderella’s in this years NCAA tournament.  I would like to offer you something different, not a “PT Player”, not a “Diaper Dandy”, but maybe one of the best point guards from a mid-major since Steve Nash hit the scene at Santa Clara when they upset a #5 seed in Arizona back in 1993.  His name is Jason Richards, let me dish these numbers at you, 35 minutes per game, 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 8 assists per game. Now you know why I used the word dish to describe his stats.

Jason Richards leads the NCAA in Assists per game, this kid really knows how to “pass the sugar”. He knows how to make his teammates better, and makes stars out of great shooters such as Stephen Curry. Jason Richards ability to put the ball on the floor, and drive to the basket creates open shots for Sophomore phenom Curry. Against UNC, Duke, UCLA, NC State, Gonzaga, and Georgetown, he combined to average 15 points and 8 assists.  This kid puts it all on the line as a Senior when his team is on the biggest stage, if this team is to continue its run in the Glass Slipper, it will be in the hands of Jason Richards!  No other team in the nation relies more heavily on their point guard than Davidson, making Jason Richards his team’s Most Valuable Player! Davidson vs. Goliath Continues!

SH*T!

It appears that Curry is the trendy pick this round.  I picked him too and I used alsmost the exact stats provided by Iam.  In any event, one cannot deny that which is true.  By the way, both essays were phenomenal - I remain very comfortable with my vote.  Good luck to both of you - the two of you have supported me in my run and the choice here was tough!

Yeah, you stole Curry from me, and then I got to thinking...and the judges on the essay will probably be sick of reading about Beasley, Hansbrough, and Curry.

First off Hansbrough is not the most important to his team. Here is my reason why. They have a team full or 5-star recruits and McDonald All-Americans. If Hansbrough wasn't there, they could just throw another one of their big men in there, and he would put up the same numbers. That entire team is amazing, so its not like he puts them
