I have never complained about officiating in any of my posts. But after what I just saw in the 2nd half, I have to start. Syracuse did not get 1 call go their way in the 2nd half. Umass got about 10-15 bad calls go their way. My favorite was when the guy lost his balance and took 3 lunging steps under the basket with travel called. Instead, he kicked it out for a 3-pointer.
Good job on the part of UMASS, getting so many looks behind the arc. However, without the bad officiating they would not have been able to complete this comeback. Even with all that, Donte Greene could have just made a couple of foul shots, and game over.
Yeah, the refs sucked, Boeheim's coaching and strategy sucked, missing layups sucked, overall the whole second half sucked! Next year better be payback time cause I can't take these kind of losses again!!!!!
What's was with the blown walk on UMass that wasn't called and ended up being 3 points for Umass and then the hold when Greene tried to drive in at the end. Is it me or does Syracuse gets bad calls against them and can't forget how to play in the second half.
All that said : Potsyas: In no way shape or form did Boeheim do a bad job coaching this squad.. Whats he supposed to do? Put in a walk on because he'll try harder on defense? Boeheim had a tough task this year trying to get his team to play solid defense because since Cuse has no depth, he cant just put in another man in for him and expect to play at the same level... I've seen Donte Greene play high school ball and tell his coach off every time the poor guy said a word.. But he could..Why? Because honestly, are you gonna take that talent out of a close ball game?
What were the refs doing during that walk I have no fricking clue. Shaq and Jordan didn't even get that many steps during there careers. Awful, awful,awful... and if I was Boeheim there I would have been tossed out of the game, arrested, and then imprisoned for assaulting the refs for not calling that. It's only a NIt game lose it.
There is no question when Brower was falling under the basket that was a travel. Even I was like wow, we got away with one. I don't know about10-15 bad calls though, what about the no call when Onuaku charged on Ricky Harris? There were a lot of calls either way. But give Umass credit for coming back and what's the deal with all the layups that Onuaku missed. You guys will learn from this and with Devendorf back you should be a sweet 16 team next year!
umass2msu - I do give Umass credit for their ability to hit all of those timely 3's. That is a good offense.
But about Onuaku missing all those layups: About 4 of those times he was tripping over a Umass player that just flopped in hope of a charge. Not once did he get the call.
Personally, I don't like the no-call on the flop. When the player dives to the floor the ref will let them play, which can lead to an open shot. However, when that player is spinning towards the basket and trips over the flopper, that HAS to be a foul. In soccer, when a player fakes being tripped to get a call, he can get carded. I'd like to see something like this in basketball. Even if you and the other player barely make contact, if you try to trick the officials, you should be penalized with a foul.
That travel was a travel. But their was a foul first. He got pushed, that is why he got off balance. I saw alot of smacks on the face and pushing on syracuse's part in both halves that didn't get called.
it turned into a physical game cuz i thought it would benefit a bigger cuse team. but harris and onuaku struggled. onuaku missed at least 8 layups and paul couldnt finsish anything. there were some bad calls but you cant blame the loss on that
you 'cuse fans cannot be serios that UMass got every call. There was bad-calls and bad no-calls the whole game on both sides. Don't blame the officiating for your loss.
Syracuse's 2nd half was as bad as UMass' 1st half.
