Gonna sound like a homer here, but Painter from Purdue should've had more than 5 votes... that team was nothing but Freshmen and Sophomores

When your team is picked to finish 9th out of 10 teams in the top 8 college basketball conferences, in addition to not being in a post season tourney since 1986 or being ranked since 1975 you should automatically leap frog over every coach from a "Major" power conference.

No disrespect to Matt Painter, but what Keno did at Drake was incredible and jaw dropping.

Yes, Drake did lose to WKU in the first round of the NCAA's, but bringing a joke of a basketball program to being the best in the MVC is a HUGE accomplishment.  Especially when you consider the lack of talent that his team had.  2 former walkons as starters.

Name 1 other school in NCAA Division 1 basketball that has at least 1 former walkon that was a starter and helped their team win 28 games.  I am willing to bet, it doesn't exist.

Keno Davis deserves this recognition, regardless of the fact that his team lost in the first round of the NCAA's.

Bo Ryan shoulda won. Its not his fault Stephen Curry made every shot he took. And yeah I expected Painter to have alot more than 5 votes. I don't get this.

I have no problem with this guy getting the award - I was just happy that Bo Ryan got second place. The Badgers were picked to finish fourth or fifth in the Big Ten, then rolled to a regular season AND tournament championship. On top of that, they got to the Sweet 16 and have won 30 games for a second consecutive year (Wisconsin had never won 30 games in a season before Bo Ryan).

Yeah, Curry went nuts on Wisky and they lost to Davidson.   Well, same thing happened to Drake in the 1st round to West. Kentucky.   They couldn't miss (neither could Drake.)  There is a reason why both teams scored a 100 pts.   BTW, I believe that W. Kent. made it to the sweet 16, so it's not like they lost to a crappy team.

Congrats Coach Davis and Drake on an outstanding year!

Those of you who think he shouldn't have won it because his team lost to an underrated 12 seed in the first round are dumb.

"not as good as they were ranked all year?"

What? A team with a 23 game above .500 record shouldn't be ranked? Really Drake should have been a 4 seed or even a 3. If it had been Creighton or Southern Illinois that had a season like Drake they would have been in ranked in the top 10.

My vote would go to Travis Ford of UMass. He was picked to finish th in the A-10  and took them to the NIT Finals. Not bad.

Please don't base how good Drake is by their last game.  They happened to play a team that was shooting lights out.  Drake was predicted to finish 9th in the conference, and completely ran away with it, then tore through the MVC tournament.  Drake didn't have the best athletes, but were a very well coached team that made very few mistakes on the court.  THAT is directly because of the excellent coaching by Keno Davis.

Davis deserved the award.  Had this vote been taken when Purdue was still in first at the end of February, Painter would have likely ran away with the Nat'l award.

If Purdue had won the conf and not gotten upset by pathetic Illinois in the conf toruney, he would have pulled in most every vote that Bo Ryan got.  I'm a Purdue diehard, but still would have voted for Davis given how traditionally moribund Drakes program is and despite that they came out of nowhere to destroy the MVC.  As for Ryan getting more votes than Painter, I would hang that on Purdue losing 3 of their last 6, and Wisc only losing to Purdue between December until the NCAA's.  For proof of that look no further thant he writers who cover the Big Ten easily awarding conf COY to Painter over Ryan.
