Corey Patterson has been torn apart on this forum because it was assumed that he was on the team because his was "Dusty's" guy. Well, after a first innings walk, he stole second and ended up scoring the Reds first run. Then, in the 8th, he ties the game with a solo homer. It is early, but Patterson does lead the team in round-tripers (haha), and was responsible for two of the Reds first three runs so far. He plays a solid CF and gives the Reds speed and pop at the top of the order. I'm perfectly ok with the Patterson/Keppinger 1-2 hitting combo and Reds nation should be too.

I like what I have seen from him. He's not hitting for average, but neither is the rest of the lineup. The first inning was a great manufactured run. I enjoyed it because it's been so long since I've seen one! Plus, his HR tied the game, which you more than likely would not have gotten from Freel or Hopper. He's a dangerous bat at the top of the lineup and he has excellent speed. He's a quick fix for now, but I like what he's doing.

About that HR that tied the game. It's not like he cheated on an inside BP fastball just over the right field wall. He muscled that thing out to left center field, that takes some serious strength. He may be a quick fix, and a decent one at that, but I still can't wait for Jay Bruce to get the call up. He could be a huge difference maker.

Bruce will be a great fill if/when Griffey goes down, or if Patterson does start to struggle, but for now I'm fine with CP, and am enjoying the ride!

We may rag on Dusty for bringing in his own guys, but Corey Patterson hit a HR in the 8th inning to tie the game at 3, and Paul Bako (yes Paul Bako) hit a walk off single to win the game. They may prove to be bad additions, or good additions, but for today they won us the game.

The fact that this team is 3-2 without much hitting is a good sign, I think. Teams that get used to winning the close ones early on find ways to win them later in the season. The hitting will come around.

I like seeing us win the close ones. Corey has shown some good things so far but it's early. Remember that at one time he was the next great thing. Maybe he is finally living up to his potential. Keppinger has also been impressive so far also. We have some depth and that is never a bad thing.

Corey Patterson was a great addition for the Reds, little to lose and still young enough to provide a great upside. Hurts a little that for the second year in a row the Reds have grabbed a player my Cubs could have had. First they work a deal with the Cubs for Josh Hamilton, and now bring in the kid that was going to patrol center at Wrigley for a decade for next to nothing.
I still think Jay Bruce will be a great player, and I admit to being more than a little concerned with the improved lineup the Reds can put on the field. I think they are a little young for the long haul this season but think that they may be a force in the division again soon

I still say no. That's not to say his contribution wasn't great. In order to have a cohesive and winning team you have to have a guy in the leadoff spot who knows how to get on base. Weather it be a walk, a bunt single, an infield hit, a hit, winning teams have a guy who does this consistently. Corey Patterson will not do these things consistenly. This is a big piece of the puzzle here. If he wants to hit a few home runs and steal a few bases, he should be playing for another team and batting fifth or even third or second depending on the team. What does Dusty have against Norris?
