As a Drake fan I am pretty bummed to hear the news Keno is taking the money and running.

Drake took a huge chance on him.  Part of the package to get Dr. Tom to come on board was to give Keno the job.  He comes out with a dream season and decides to cash in his chips.  I would like to think he'd have some loyalty to the place that gave him his start but when you jump from 200-330K to a million it's hard to say no.

I don't blame him for making the move but it seems like you would want a track record of a few years before you make the jump.  ISU hired Coach Mac from UNI a couple years ago but he had several years under his belt a record of success.

How do you think he'll do in the new job????

Great line by Marlon Brando in "One-Eyed Jacks" .."He didn't leave me no selection".  I voted Huge success quickly, because you didn't offer successful in three years.
I'm a UMass season ticket holder and glad Travis is staying put for a while to wait for his dream job (Ky). Your numbers on the money are way off, reports are that UMass bumped Ford from $330k to $500 to match Providence.

Shamrock, Not off on the money.  The 3 network affiliates in Des Moines have all confirmed the 7 year at $7 million deal.  They are also reporting he has no buyout.  If your guy worked UMass for $500K it sounds like he didn't grab the money and decided he was better off to stay put.

I'm disappointed that he would move.  No arguement it is a step up in leagues.  It will be interesting to watch how he does and how he recruits.

Good bye and good luck Keno.  I have trust the AD will do her homework.  Tom Davis is still on the AD's staff so I think he will still play a role in all this before it's all over.

It will be very interesting to see how Keno works out in the Big East, his style was very aggressive this year and I don't know how that will work in the Big East.  I don't know how he will recruit because he did it different with Drake this season.

I'm pretty shocked that Providence looked Keno's way. I mean yes he was coach of the year, but it is still his first year head coaching. And yes Drake was picked to be one of the worst teams in the MVC, and they beasted it up this year, but that is exactly what happened to Butler last year. Butler was picked to finish 8th in the Horizon in 2006-2007, and then we had our best year to date. And then Lickliter was named coach of the year, and he left for Iowa after 6 years with BU.

Keno has a real chance to make a name for himself at Providence. I really wish Butler could have beat Drake at Hinkle fieldhouse, so then people would call Brad Stevens coach of the year...

Your poll choice expects an answer of great or fail. It is the Big East and we all know its one of the most competitive leagues in the country. I would say if they bring the conference mark back to above 500 next year he is doing great. He just finished a year at Drake that was top notch. Anymore though if you want to keep a winning coach you pay them. Drake did not do that. Two when you see a better opportunity to enter one of the top basketball conferences you take it.
