Yeah, right. She writes a letter, but isn't going to pony up any cash. There is an uproar so like the typical politician she offers lip service. Seattle fans need action -- not an 11th hour letter when she's had years to work on a real solution.

Yeah, she did absolutely nothing this whole time. I can't stand that scary looking lady. We needed her to speak up a long time ago.

What makes you think that the Gov has any ability to "pony up cash" to keep the Sonics in Seattle?? The Legislature and voters are the ones with any power in that regard. In fact, why don't you get out there and spearhead an Initiative to place "pony cash for the Sonics" on November's ballot? In that sense, you can actually do more than Gregoire. So get at it and stop taking uninformed pot shots at elected officials.

She is doing the right thing asking to postpone but its curious it comes a few days after she announces to run for re election. She should have been working on a solution a few years ago.

Bolts_Fan:

The Governor _absolutely_ has the ability to "pony up cash". It's called leadership.

This is one more example of the attitude of "there's plenty of time" and dragging things out when it's time to make a decision. A real proposal came forward from the CEO of Microsoft and others that would have provided private financing for the Key Arena improvements needed to make the Sonics financially competitive. The city agreed to its $75 million share for parking improvements and other public area work. All that was left was $75 million from the state. But the governor and legislators said they wouldn't consider it, come back next year. Well, now that deal's off the table and it probably means the team is gone to Oklahoma.

MarkG: I think you need to review your high school government class. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that the governor.. or any other member of the executive branch can unilaterally authorize spending the amount of money that would be required to build a new arena. Such an allocation of funding would have to be proposed to the voters of WA through some mechanism such as an Initiative and then approved by the Legislature.

Having the constitutional authority to allocate funding has nothing to do with leadership. Last I checked, our democratic system was based upon separation of powers. If we were operating under a dictatorship, your simplistic view might make sense.
