Those who want to trade JO this offseason just don't get it.

Seriously,

Why on earth would we want to trade him when his value is as low as can be?  I think he played well enough at the end of this season (in limited minutes) that there is hope that he can return to his old self next year.  What sense would it make to trade him now?

most pacer fans want us to rebuild.  trading JO is a huge step towards rebuilding.

plus, he is representative of our old team (with jackson and artest), and people still haven't forgotten that.  by dumping JO, JT, harrison, daniels, and williams this offseason, the front office would purge the team of the remaining "morally questionable" players.

i'm not saying they should do it, i'm not even saying they will do it, but one thing is clear:  with the lowest attendance in the nba (without having the worst record in the nba), the Pacers NEED to fix their public image.

Even if he does return next year a plays great, he might get injured again. Then we are just wasting money. I see what your saying Hurricane, but if he can't return to his old self, we need to get rid of him.

What exactly did O'Neal and Daniels do?  I'm all for trading Tinsley and Williams, and Harrison will likely walk as a free agent, but I don't understand your logic with O'Neal and Daniels.

By the way,

Thanks for the "1 star" reviews.  I really appreciate it.

oneal sucker punched a fan during the brawl, and daniels had a rape occur at his house (not that it was him, but it did happen at his house).  plus, daniels was at the strip club that jackson shot up, and was in the bar fight with tinsley.  and i'm not saying that i have a problem with these guys, but the fan base as a whole seems to.  my whole argument is that we need to purge our team of these guys and get back to a group that fans will like and respect, because without that, the Pacers will continue to have the lowest attendance in the nba (and without fans in the stands, the organization will be hard pressed to hold on to our good players (granger), and will have trouble bringing in free agents, because who wants to play pro basketball with no one watching?)

and the 1 stars arent a personal vendatta or anything, i just strongly disagree with both your positions on JO and granger.  its not like i'm going through trying to pick out all your posts and give you a 1 star review.  i'm just reading through posts at my leisure and 5 staring what i agree with and 1 staring what i dont.  nothing personal man.

oneal is not as good as his contract.  period.  its going to be up in a couple years (i think) anyway and you know the Pacers aren't going to be foolish enough to pay him what he wants again.  might as well get a couple of expiring contracts for him and part ways.  he is not dependable.  he is not a leader.  he is not half the player he was 4 years ago and honestly, i don't think he even wants to play here anymore.  why prolong the inevitable?  no way oneal plays for the pacers with a new contract.

by the way, any star rating has a positive affect on your reputation.  sportsline did away with any negative ratings because of all the "zero trolls".  so those one stars only helped your rating, hurricane.

Trade JO only if you get something that will help in rebuilding, do not trade him for worthless useless contracts that are long and won't help, trade Daniels or don't who cares, he's not much use, and what is anybody going to give up for him.  I personally would not trade Williams, he has huge upside and is still cheap, he does not even make 2 million a year, he's got his problems, but most have to do with who he associates with, he can fix that he just needs to grow up a little bit.  Harrison is garbo.  And we all feel the same about Tinsley he has to go now he should've been gone 2-3 years ago.  Resign Murray he is the best PG we have right now, by far, Diener sucks and is a waste of money.  Build this team around Granger, and Dunleavy.  Murphy can be a solid double double guy if he decides to play like we all know he can.   But going back to JO who is going to trade anything worthwhile for him?  We'd be better off if he just walks, if he wants to win he may take a cut to play elsewhere, but I wouldn't.

I have nothing against JO.  Even at full strength and playing well he doesn't fit into an up tempo offense.  He's a presence inside on the defensive end.  I'm not saying give him away, but he definately needs to go.  Ideally we should go for a future draft pick and rebuild through the draft.  It might take a few years, but the fans will come if they see hope along with effort.

I'm for and against trading JO. There are reason we need to trade him and reasons not to trade him. My biggest reason to trade him is he makes to much money and he is injury prone. The biggest reason not to trade him is because he can be dominate when he is 100%. I think if they can make a deal in the draft for him go ahead but if not don't do it.
