I mean, wow. A lot of us have argued on this board about who we should pick, but none of us thought it would be this bad. I'm embarassed. Hopefully, I end up being completely wrong about this, but the draft should be a day of hope. All I feel is regret. I've been waiting for months for draft day, and now I want nothing more than for draft day to still be a week away.
Here is my analysis of our picks.

More than any other draft there is a feeling of resentment, anger, bewilderment and disappointment. We dont have the big names that were in previous drafts, the Lions are drafting lower than they have in some time. We cant look for a dramatic improvement in the Lions team out of this draft, it will be more of an incremental change. Rod Marinelli is getting the players he wants, those with high energy who love football and will be good characters in the locker room. Its a safe draft with no gambles, just steady reliable athletes who will work hard.

I agree with Dacey-We picked solid guys. I was not very excited about our picks, but then again I am not a scout. I remember I was upset a few years when we drafted Ernie and look how he turned out. Let us hope for a great 2nd day.

I think by the end of next season we'll look at these first 2 rounds as being very solid. The Lions did the right thing in the first round by upgrading their O-line before taking a RB. Gosder Cherilus is a solid player with quite a bit of upside.
I think the Jordan Dizon pick will also prove to be solid, alot of great MLB's were considered too small and not fast enough, Zach Thomas, Sam Mills, Al Wilson. This guy is a Marinelli guy all the way, he'll work hard and give us his all. He had a great college career and is a tackling machine.
Let's hope for a great Day2. More Marinelli Men! I knew we wouldn't draft a RB in the first round. Finally we're building the core with solid guys. This is going to be an ugly draft and that's a good thing. We won't like the picks because Marinelli is going to draft hard working guys who produce but might not be the big names. He's not going to stray from his plan and what he wants....it's what he needs to do!

I am also thoroughly disgusted with this draft. so far. However I do believe we got 2 marinelli type guys. Both players were considered the leaders of their team on their respective sides of the ball.
I just do not understand why we traded out of the 15th spot with Branden Albert available. On top of that I think everyone expected us to take Mendenhall and thought the trade was gonna be a great idea as it moved us up 10 slots in the third and granted us an extra 5th while still allowing us to get our guy.
But why take a player who showed he does not even have the ability to play left tackle in college. He will most likely be our starting right tackle at the start of the season but are we satisfied with Backus at Left tackle?
The pick of Dizon didnt seem to make sense either. He is a small lb who projects to the weakside and hes actually much smaller than most of the top rbs in this class. He is a non stop motor guy, he did lead the defense of Colorado and was the BIg 12 Def player of the year. But didnt we need a MLB?
I still have high hopes for Day 2 but today was disappointing to say the least.

lol you guys replied to my unfinished thread. my bad. simba i know we needed O-Line help, but why not trade up and get the second best tackle insteadind of trading down 2 spots and getting the 5th, 6th or 7th best?

here is the rest of my thread
GOSDER CHERILUS- no one is going to say we didn;t need an OT. But Cherilus?? We could have moved up 3 spots and drafted the second best OT, instead we trade down 2 spots and draft the 5th, 6th, or 7th best depending on who you ask. This is unacceptable. I don't care how much Marinelli like this guy, we could have done better. Did we even upgrade our line? I'm expecting Cherilus to come in and play RT, but I thought we were high on Scott. Our line would look a lot a lot better with Clady at LT, and Backus moving to right tackle.
How we pass on Mendenhall for this guy I will never know. I would have preferred a corner or DE over this guy. And to barely get anything for moving down (a fifth and switch of thirds) disgusts me.
JORDAN DIZON- Let's see, we need a MLB more than anything, and we draft an undersized, slow OLB? He's the 8th or 9th best OLB. The funny thing about it was hearing the guys on TV say "this is definitely a Matt Millen pick" like that's a compliment. I know the guy made a lot tackles, but college stats don't always project into the NFL. We passed on Ray Rice and Calais Campbell for him. Both filled greater needs. I think this pick is worse than Cherilus, as no one can say we didn't need O-Line help.
And to have us have two thirds and two fifths and do nothing in the second round to get guys we need is a joke. We watched guys like Rice, Lofton, Campbell, etc get scooped up and we had the means to move up and get them. Quentin Groves, too. I'm miserable.
