I am getting really really sick of reading the comments on here. This is half the reason the Lions suck, a bunch of non-wavering ignorant fans still dumping money and support into an embarassing organization. Having said that, if you know absolutely nothing about football please stop commenting on these boards.
First Pick - Gosder Cherilus - Initially I thought RB, but if you can't block for your RB/QB then what's the point. This is a solid pick. He was projected to go somewhere in the second half of the first round which is exactly what he did. For all of you who complain about never hearing about this guy...he's an OT, of course you've never heard of him! Isn't that the epitome of the position, the guys on the team that really make it successful but never get the credit. The only reason you know Jake Long is cause he is a no. 1 pick. Furthermore, let me ask you this, who went no. 3? and where did he play? Oh yea, at BC, with this 6-6 1/2 325lb angry monster lined up right in front of him to his blind side. You think Matt Ryan could have had the season he'd had at a so-so BC w/o some NFL caliber T blocking in front of him. Gosder brings not only talent, but a grit and toughness the Lions so desperately need. Not to mention his super-human work ethic and character, things you just can't put a price tag on for a coach that's trying to replace the country club atmosphere he inherited at the Allen Park training facility. Bonus points, his versatility, the Lions see him at RT, but he could play L/R T and L/R G, boosting his value to a team that has seen more than it's share of injuries along it's front line over the past few seasons.
Second Pick - Jordin Dizon - I really really loved this pick!! Dizon and/or Henne are going to be the steals of round 2. All you hear is the negative about this kid,, too small, too slow, too this too that. And I'm sure he's heard it his whole life. Let's put this pick in perspective though. He played at Colorado, a respectable program that has turned in many a NFL players. He played elite competition in the Big 12 conference with more than it's share of NFL prospects. In this powerhouse conference, he was Player of the Year, that's right POY in the Big-12. This is the clincher in the whole deal for me though. His instinctive ability to get to the ball and make a tackle. The NFL in general, and God knows the Lions, are desperate for LB's who can minimize the mistakes of others and make tackles, and make those tackles consistently. This kid is the 8th leader tackler in NCAA history!!! That's right NCAA history, any school any year. You just can't overachieve that. If you don't think that Detroit is absolutely dying to get someone to make a tackle at the second level then you have either never watched the Lions play, or you don't know what a tackle is. Furthermore, he might be able to hold a pre-season clinic for the rest of the Lions defense teaching them the fundamentals of tackling. This alone might be worth the second round draft pick.
