Thank the Baseball gods for nice breaks once in a while. Like sending a virtual unknown Pitcher that for now, befuddles the competition. You know the old saying though,...Fool me once, shame on you,...Fool me twice! Let's hope it does not get to that point soon. I for one would like to keep this guy around for spot starts at the very least, when Mr. Willis returns. Galarraga throws a nice fastball, 91-94 mph, with good control and he compliments it with a relatively decent slider which he throws with good velocity. Oh, he is a RHP. Interestingly enough, a two pitch thrower. Is he a future ace? Maybe. Do I want him to replace Robertson in the rotation? Not yet. Galarraga has the benefit of being a relatively unknown quantity. Robertson who also throws a fastball between 91-94 mph and compliments it with a very good slider, has had it a little rough to begin the year but he is definately coming around. 21K/6BB ratio over the last 21.2 innings. If this kind of performance continues, he will turn things around. Best case scenario, I'll trust Jim Leyland's judgement here. Play Galarraga's card to the hilt while Dontrelle is out. Robertson is going to continue to lower his ERA and start winning games with a little help from his friends which, he was not getting much of, earlier in the month. In the long run, I like experience over the unknown quality/quantity, at least in this instance.
Tigers are making moves and things are starting to come together. 9-4-0 in the last 13 games. Now that is the way we would like to see things going.
Just remember to take 'em one series at a time and we'll be there in the Fall.
