lol ive just become disenchanted with the nba of late.  i see these teams play hard one game and then hardly play at all the next.  i think a one and done situation would remedy that.

This thread is non-sense. Im sorry I made it too complicated for you. I said there was a problem, people reply with their own opinions and/or solutions...pretty simple really...

The team that wins home court only gets one more home game that their opponent gets!  How can it be any fairer than that?

1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1..

Is how we have most series go...Im hoping round 2 is more like the Suns/spurs game 1. That was truly a great game...

It's getting predictable...but it is only round one...

I personally like the current playoffs format. It gives the teams who played better during the regular season the putative edge that homecourt represents. The Celtics and Pistons were cognizant of the fact that whoever won the conference will have the homecourt advantage in their matchup. It made the Celtics play harder against every team, every game. If the system changed it will make the regular season less relevant.

Remember that the NBA is also a business and owners vote on final format decisions thinking of the financial standpoint. The 2-2-1-1-1 format is also an advantage from the financial standpoint since teams stay for a few days on the cities avoiding the mobilization burden a one - one game format will create... in fact this is why the Finals were changed to a 2-3-2 format, to avoid the across country travel limiting the teams to one trip to the homecourt team and two to the visiting team in a seven game series, instead of the maximum 4 & 3 trips respectively on a one - one format.

Oracle - while I understand your point . . . it is kind of an out-dated one.

Just look at the Mavericks.  They're flying home after every game anyway.  Most teams have charter flights.  While cost will always be an issue to businessmen (i.e. the owners), I think the flight costs pale in comparison to some of the other costs they face.  Flying a team to another city two or three times is chump change to these people.

Not sure how anyone could complain about Conferences after this year. Yeah the records may not have been comparable, but the play in the 2 sides was much more intense the last month than it would have been otherwise.  there is no way the West teams would have battled as hard if they knew they would make the playoffs and couldn't catch the Pistons or the Celtics for the one seed anyway. GS had their chances, they blew it down the stretch. The Nuggets gave them every opportunity to advance, no way they deserved to make it.

As a fan i get much more pumped up for every game against the West (especially the Pacific) than I do against the East. Taking away conferences will create more travel and reduce the level of play. Only fair way to do it would be to even out the games played against all teams, otherwise the teams playing more games against the weaker East would have oo much of an advantage.

Maybe we could go 6 game series and if its tied after 6, you go to point differential. Similar to Soccer.
