I see some people have gotten a little mad about me saying that "baseball is barely a sport" and "hockey sucks," so i'll go into it a little deeper.

As far as hockey is concerned, I grew up in the south, not much ice down here.  I recognize hockey as a very tough sport, the problem is that I don't understand it at all and really have no desire to understand it.

Baseball, on the other hand, is a sport I know a little bit about.  I played baseball when I was younger, and I can say that baseball is barely a sport.  Why?  Simply because most of the game all you do is stand around and wait.  You can go innings without even having to run.  There are certain positions that are tougher than others: pitcher, catcher, SS, but there is still standing around.  I'll agree that when the ball is actually hit to the player the sport gets difficult, but sometimes you can go a few innings without having the ball even come your way.  There isn't constant physical activity, or even physical activity most of the time.

Calling me an idiot just because I don't care for hockey or baseball is a little over the line isn't it?  It's all personal preference, that would be like me saying "You don't like chinese food?  You're an idiot, chinese food is the best."  You see how stupid that sounds?

Looks like I'm in the minority on the question I posed.

I bet you sucked at baseball and you are just bitter...

Well than why not just keep the comments about the other SPORTS to yourself to begin with? It's pretty stupid to say it then complain when people comment on it.

The new format is better. It's obvious they don't NEED that much time. So the extra time is a waste. And instead of sitting on the couch the extra 3 hours, go DO something!

You want to give analyst MORE time to try and justify their paychecks or try and weasel out of why their mock drafts went awry? They already have 09 mock drafts... I don't think they need any more time on their hands.

check out the site guys. its kind of like fantasy football but instead of picking nfl players you create your own player and control his career. you can pick your position get drafted boost your abilities and it keeps track of all your stats throughout your career. i ran across it a couple of days ago and its really easy to set up. once you set up your player go to forums and select player looking of team, pick the best contract proposal and you are ready to go.

Personally, in an attempt to avoid personal attacks I try to preface any remark I make by stating, "In my opinion...." and then back my statement up with any factual evidence that I might have available to me to establish my viewpoint.

That being said, it is my opinion that the NHL is difficult to follow on TV due to the puck being so difficult to follow for the limited camera angles that the networks have used to telecast regular season games OR any playoff game for Lord Stanley's Cup. Hockey is a beautiful game full of intricate passes, difficult angles for a wrist shot at the net, forechecking and power play goals. With the internet, rules are available as well as a primer for the game in numerous locations (not the least of Wikipedia) if you really want to understand the game as it is played.

Baseball is a sport that any number of youngsters (note: not just boys) can get together on a sandlot w/o a lot of expensive equipment and play from dawn to dusk (one of my favorite childhood memories).  Over the course of my playing years (Little League, Babe Ruth, fast/slow pitch softball) I have been in an organized game playing every position somewhere along the line. Each position has its own intricacies when in the field that a student of the game does and will appreciate. If you asked me what I preferred I would simply respond, "Put me in Coach, I'm ready to play where ever you need me."

Everything is relative. What if NFL teams had 24hours to pick for the first round and then they tried to cut it in half to 12 hours per pick? Things would still be moving at a pace slower than chess-by-mail, but the same people would be complaining because "they don't got 12 hours anymore". Wah wah. I wanna see those NFL GM's try to navigate through a draft where there's only a minute and a half per pick. I do em in fantasy every year and even that leaves me winded.

Haha I know what you mean, but we aren't playing fantasy football with millions of dollars on the line. But bragging rights are priceless.

I think the thing that eats the most time is trying to swing trades... and it probably depends on how you're drafting, but most fantasy leagues don't trade draft picks. But there were plent of trades made with 5 less minutes, so the whining GM's can stop looking for excuses as to why they aren't competent at their jobs.

I can somewhat see the point IF a trade is in progress. Perhaps trades must initiated by 8 minutes and then you can have and extra 5 to finish it ... that would total 13 minutes BUT only if a trade is verifiably in progress. That would never happen but it is a reasonable compromise.

From a media event standpoint, the new format is much better. From a teams drafting standpoint, perhaps the above or the old format.

Since it IS a media event ... I like the new format.

Peace ... Rog

I've been waiting for this one to come up. I'm a fantasy fanatic myself and our draft is 1 minute per selection. You are correct, it can be very hectic at times. But I also don't have MILLIONS of dollars on the line for any of my picks. Even if you are in a high stakes league ... it's just not the same. You are comparing apples and oranges. I'm sure the GM's WISH their draft was as simple as a fantasy draft.

Peace ... Rog
