You know, how can you say that they didn't have problems with fights back then (90s). Just from memory I recall the Knicks bench clearing brawl that got nearly the whole team ejected and suspended, the late 80s early 90s Bad Boy Pistons with players like Rick Mahorn, Bill Laimbeer, and Dennis Rodman were always getting flagrant fouls, Rodman later became the leader in technicals, ejections, etc. and even Michael Jordan was ejected and I believe suspended a game for punching Reggie Miller. Is it that new stories from the Associated Press make it seem worse? I highly doubt it? There were problems long before the brawl in Auburn Hills (love the irony), and problems with player behavior long before players were sporting tattoos, etc.

Um melo28 - your little equation (or reasoning) makes absolutely ZERO sense - every single part of it actually makes absolutely no sense. Me thinks you have some deeper beef about something that you won't admit to.
What do white patrons have to do with it?
The league is about 90% black players AND even when there were more white players in the league in the 90's the league was probably at least 70% black players.
Yes, the Palace brawl is a major reason for Stern being stricter to be blunt. But if you see major changes in anything (not just sports) most of the time it is because something really bad happened.
The brawl at the Palace qualified as something really bad and the league's reaction had NOTHING to do with race.
In the big picture though it sucks ass that certain changes don't happen until after some bad event.
And your subject line of "Let Em Play" - playing rough and within the rules and spirit of the game is one thing, but flagrant fouls are a whole different issue and the league should do what they can to limit it - they just didn't get strict on it as early as they should've. The league was very popular in the 90's because of 1 specific player - not because of players commiting flagrant fouls.

Hey melo28, you don't really have a point do you a$$ho1e? Your supposed point is that fines and suspensions are much worse now (for similar offenses I presume) due to the brawl at Auburn Hills and that you hate David Stern for not letting players play because he doesn't want white people to see black players fight. Well the league has always had a lot problems with fighting in between players, ever hear of "The Punch?" probably not because you don't appear to have any memory of any thing before the brawl at Auburn Hills; I peg your age at no older than 20. Outside of minor changes in the rules (e.g., removal of the hand check) NBA players play the same way today as they did in the last decade, and player fines aren't really the NBA's major source of revenue, dumb a$$. Not even a significant source. Where I'm sure David Stern is much more concerned with the loss of fan base, lower television contracts, and general attention to the sport since Jordan retired, than fining DeShawn Stevenson for example, you seem to think that Stern is being to strict because its an issue of race between the fans and players, you, melo28, sound like a race baiter in both of your posts.

melo28 - before you read this take a deep breath to calm yourself down.
Here's the thing - it's kind of really hard to understand what you're intending your point to be. You're not making it clear when you put it into words, so what others are seeing is just a jumble of random statements that aren't directly connected and don't make a logical argument or opinion. The points that you made are way out there and they don't connect with each other to lead to any logical conclusion.
So, either you don't know how to communicate an opinion so that others will understand most of your opinion OR you're really ticked about something else or something deeper. Or you could just be trying to confuse others on purpose - which plenty of people do on these threads, it's kinda funny sometimes!
So maybe if you can clearly say your opinion/argument others will be softer when responding to it - folks might not agree with it but they probably won't slam it.
Hopefully you were able to take this as constructive criticism.

the statements that you made in your original post are far from the truth - they're crappy opinions that make sense only if you're only looking at things through a tiny ass window.
That's why your point/ argument or whatever you want to call it has absolutely ZERO validity - whether I or anyone else agrees with it or not. And if you look at it with a wider perspective (ie not just your opinion) you'd realize that it comes off as a bunch of random junk to be blunt. None of your statements by themself or together makes a point except for hey, this dude's out of control and has no idea as to what he's saying.
On the topic that you brought up though - yeah, let 'em play as long as it doesn't lead to the league getting a bad image or players hurting each other on plays where they obviously aren't going for the ball (unless if it's on a screen or something like that).
I'll stop there - good luck getting folks to understand any of your other viewpoints in the future.....................
