I think we should keep Anthony Mix. Zorn sees something good in him and I think given the opportunity, the kid can step up big time for us, especially in the red zone. Although he is similar to Kelly, letting him go is a decision we will come to regret. We should keep 6 WR including Mix. I like Thrash's professionalism in that stepped up when Moss & El went down last year but I think Mathis is a good PR/KR, much faster and better than Cartwright, and has the ability to take it to the house on every play. So if the 6th spot came down to Thrash & Mathis, I want Mathis (great speed though has health issues) but I guess for veteran leadership for our young receivers we should take Thrash. A close call.

Why do we need Mathis to return kicks since we have Justin Tryon who can return it past the 50 every time

that is about all he did do.  Keep him on Special Teams, never know when we may need a 5th WR with injuries etc.

I'm with most others here. Thrash's veteran presence may be needed, especially if there's an injury to Moss or El. I like the potential of the rookies, but they still have to adjust to the NFL.

What do you think of the chances that Thomas, Tryon, or Kelly take on return duties? Of the three, Thomas has the most experience, and was actually a good returner in the Big 10.

Samoaskinz, I posted something like similar to what you said earlier but I am not sure I mentioned the backs (Portis, Betts and Sellers) as receivers on check downs and swing passes. I hate to say this but if any of you are old enough to remember how Montana used to toss swing passes to Roger Craig back in the day, that just kills a Defense because no matter how well you cover the WR the back picks up yards or takes it to the house. Portis and Betts have the ability to make thing happen in the open field and no one in their right mind wants to take on Sellers granted he won't take it to the house but he can bring the PAIN. As for Thrash in a perfect situation place him on the taxi/practice squad and hope like hell no one picks him up. with that being said I just thought about what is his salary cap if we did loose him either cutting him or off the practice squad. It seems that the Redskins are seriously trying to finally manage the CAP at least I hope so. Again i say great moves with the draft even if we didn't get the DE we all were hoping for. BTW great post Man!!!

I think we finally have the depth we need at WR. Mix just adds to it. One thing that I do remember about the Seattle team last year is that they had five receiver with 30 or more catches so the mixing and matching of what receiver might be in with another will be better for us if we have 5 really good receivers. Thrash will make six because he is a special teams player. Mix looks like he will be a decent special teamer too. I know that people are concerned that the offense is struggling but the timing again has to be worked on and even though Campbell knows the offense WR have to get the routes and timing down and Campbell has to recognize more from the defense and The back have to be able to block even more cause Campbell going to need that extra sec. It is a learning process that it going to take them the entire summer and maybe two preseason games before they feel comfortable with everything. No to mention that they have been practicing against a defense that has everyone returning and know their defense really well cause nothing has change for them so they will be well ahead of the offense right now. The more time the offense has together the better it will get. We have the right people to run this offense so it is just about getting them getting on the same page a executing!

Gee

I know what you mean. I can remember Montana using those swing passes when the rush D got too ambitious and almost certainly gain huge yards & TDs. More recently, Westbrook got very goods yards after the pass from similar startegies and I know Portis is going to break open defenses IF he goes unmarked in the flats. In one article by Redskins.com, Zorn was impressed with how JC instinctively went to Portis when his 1st and 2nd receivers were covered, so at least we know JC has Portis in his peripherals when he does his checkdowns. Sellers got some balls thrown his way in Gibbs/Saunders offense so I can only imagine that he will be used more as a passing target in the WCO. I hope we keep Thrash, whether on the roster or practice squad, because he is a consumate Redskin pro player that we can depend on when called upon. A good role model for our younger players to look up to.

I am satisfied with our WR corp, just have to get a couple rookies in the mood to kick some WC tail, a good offense for a rookie to learn in the slots.
