I think Ted Thompson would go younger if he could. Maybe high school players can be taken without going to college, like in the NBA. Or maybe we should move down to middle school, or, better yet, Peewee! Just imagine how cheap we could get these plays and how long our team could be good! Let's go for a record of youngest team in history! Maybe he could have an age limit and cut players when they reach, let's say, thirty years old?
Of course, I'm joking. I like that we have a young team as long as they show the maturity of a veteran. If they can outperform teams with aging stars who are starting to slow down a bit, they can be good for a long time. Furthermore, they can prove a long-held belief of mine: big name, "experienced" players are not required for a team to be a contender. Talent is. And if a GM can evaluate talent in younger players and--this is important--identify people with good character who hold strong work ethics and maturity, then that team can be good for a long time. Let's hope that Ted Thompson can be that GM!
