Michael Avery is 15 years old and has been playing with the Indiana Elite with kids 2 years older then him.  Gillispie was at an AAU tournament scouting a couple of other players and saw Michael play and word got to Michaels dad through the Indiana Elite team that Gillispie liked Michaels game so his dad called Gillispie to see if he really liked his sons game and had to leave a message on  a Friday since the coach was out recruiting (no surprise considering the phenomenal week he has had in recruiting.)  Due to NCAA regulations Gillispie could not return the phone call since Michael is not in high school yet.  On the following Monday morning Mr Avery tried to call Gillispie again and this time he was in his office and took his call.  He explained why he could not return his call and they talked for a little bit and by the end of the conversation the coach had offered Michael a scholarship.  Michael told his dad that UK was one of the teams that he really liked so he gave a verbal (not able to sign a LOI yet).  On a side note, the Averys have applied to a private school in Indiana where his mom was from and they still have family living there.

So what! My son will be 2 years old on Saturday and has been committed to Georgia for almost 2 years now. He's 3'2" and 42 LBS. Watch out Gators.

Although he has "committed" to Kentucky, who said that he'll even go to college. If he's so good then he might go pro after graduating high school. He might also have terrible grades and couldn't be accepted. There are too many variables to completely comprehend this allagation that rivals.com has stated.

By the time Michael Avery makes it to college the new rule will be in effect that players have to be 2 years removed from their graduating class to go into the NBA draft.  Also his current GPA has been addressed and he is an honor roll student carrying a 3.5 GPA.  Grades or early jump to the NBA are not likely to occur.   The only question seems to be if something happens like an injury, coaching change or maybe basbetball will become illegal.  However, in an interview on kentuckyink.com, Michael already seems to be a big fan of the Wildcats so all he needs to do is continue working on his game and he will have his college paid for; hopefully at UK.

I was under the impression a student had to be a senior in high school in his/her final semester to make any commitment. Interesting story regardless.

a player can 'verbal' at any time but that is a nonbinding agreement on both sides.  A 'comittment' involves signing a letter of intent and I think they have to be a senior in high school to do that.  When a player signs a letter of intent the only way they can get out of it is by the university releasing them from it.

what can I say?  I have been doing night work for nearly 25 years.  I started that shift in college and it pays a lot better so I have stayed with it plus it gives me the added bonus of being able to be at my kids school functions and with kids 18, 11 and 4 years old there always seem to be some kind of day function that I dont want to miss.

bilsvikes,
You don't need to justify anything to me.  I was just smart-assing about how much time I and many others spend posting on these boards.
added bonus of being able to be at my kids school functionsSounds to me like you don't need my advice on priorities.  Keep those home fires burning.  Best of everything for you and yours.
