I see Bush Hamdan at QB, Ian Johnson as the Running back, Vinnie Parretta, blocking back and alternate running back/half-back receiver, too many wide receivers to call. The offensive line will be powerful even without Ryan Clady. The only questions I have is the defense. We need to have the tackles and linebackers to step up and stuff the runs and the corner backs to stop the passing game...especially Hawaii's passing game. In my opinion, the Broncs will tip the scales and take the Wac this year...no problem.
Your lineup looks pretty good to me. i don't know if they will have the quick hook on Ian as it is his senior year. I also think Avery will be ahead of Martin in the lineup, but I could be wrong.
And yes, I think it's a bit early for me to be thinking depth charts for next season. How dare you talk about football when there are trolls dragging these boards into the mud?
The new college magazines are hitting the shelves now and Phil Steele is projecting Moore as the starting QB and BSU is picked to win the WAC with Fresno close behind.
Kellen starting could mean big things for BSU. I like what Im hearing.
I hope the mags know what they are talking about, I don't want to see a repeat of last year, at least with Moore in, even if we have a losing season it will be for a purpose as we build him up.
I too am worried a lot about defense. But we won't see any real challenges (again a repeat of last season) till we get to Oregon. Because if we have lost a game by then, well its gonna be a massacre in Autzen, that is one of the loudest stadiums I have ever been in and their fans (including my wife) are rabid fans, if we go down there we had better do it swinging for the fences or its gonna be a bloody blue and orange crowd leaving the bowl, myself included
It may not be the one they pick, but it is the one I want. The offensive line is:Woodruff, Gott, Lucirillo, Innocho, Slater. I saw on the Bronco web page that these guys were quite underweight (except Woodruff). However, if you look on last year's lineup, these guys were close to if not in good weight to perform the job. Next Receivers: Childs (if he returns), Young and Pettis with some great packages that include reserves. QB: Hamden will win the job, but expect Moore to make good competition and play 20% during the season. I expect Lomax to transfer to Portland State and Caughlin to stay with BSU for at least one season. Unfortunately for Caughlin he will not beat out Moore in the next three years. And he won't transfer until it is too late. IJ and other backs will have a good year. IJ if healthy, will be the main force. TE by committee; watch Oneal.
Defense:
Other than the QB race, this is were it gets interesting. Mike Williams and Winterswyke anchor the DE spots with Root getting big plays. JoBoz and Edwards with a yet to be named freshman backup at DT. What we need is big, fast Line backers. Dobbs to take his Will, Acrey to take the Mike and the JC transfer Makay to take the SAM. Why? they are all over 220, fast and able to hit hard. Expect Brady, and Ghing to fill in certain situations, but even these two are skilled and have been starters, they do not have the physical qualities and hitting power to dominate. The CB are Thompson and Wilson the Safeties are Johnson and Robinson, with Garcia Day rotating in and playing on nickel.
For those of you that think IJ will be pulled as a starter, I say WOW. 800 yards as a Freshman by committee; 1700+ yards as a Sophomore; 1000 yards as a Junior (stayed out two games that could have produced 150 yards with injuries). Ian can and should start every game this year. Find a hole over left tackle and he is gone.
BSU should be 2-0 going into the Oregon game. That game will definately be a indication of the rest of the season. I hope BSU gives them a good game.
Boise is going to need to be a passing team this year with the undersized line. I would think the running game would consist of sweeps and counters, not much straight ahead running.
Boise at its worse should still win 8 games and I'm thinking they will be more like 10-2 or 11-1 come bowl season. Either way a top 25 team and another bowl appearence.
Hamden might win the job but from what I hear Moore has a better arm. Hamden might start the ISU game with Moore playing the second half, by the Oregon game I think Moore will have it or come in quickly if BSU is down by a couple TD's early.
Ian is a great player and I hope he has a great season. There is to much talent behind Ian to let him play hurt. I'm crossing my fingers that he stays healthy all season.
