He's the greatest reliever, not only of our time, but EVER!  Others have had better years(Eckersly, Gagne,Thigpen) but no one can touch the overall regular season and especially postseason resume.  And, you can never question whether his performance is "enhanced"...the guy has looked the same 190 plus soaking wet, non intimidating, skinny SOB since first watching him come up with the Yanks in 95.  It's funny, cause I remember when the Yanks first brought him up in 95, as a starter...he was AWFUL!  And...the announcers at the time commented that even though he threw fast, his pitches were terribly straight and he would never get major leaguers out with that stuff.  Well...a trip to the minors later...and..he came back reinvented with the most dangerous pitch of our generation.  Mo...you have become an assumption for Yank fans, taken for granted, somehow...we will only begin to appreciate how great you really were, when we wont have the Sandman to call on anymore!

That is a sad day soon approaching the world of Yankee Baseball. The day Mo retires. He is no doubt the greatest closer ever.

I concur, there has never been a pitcher in my lifetime(37) that makes you feel the way Rivera makes you feel, utterly hopeless. When he blows a save it is just so shocking.

Mariano Rivera is the best Reliever/Closer ever. Here are a couple of stats for you to chew on: 453 carrer saves, 869 strikeouts and only 238 walks in 968.0 innings, ERA of 0.77 in the postseason along with 34 saves in 39 attemps and 801 games played.

As a lifelong Yankee fan I have been spoiled knowing that when the Yankees have a lead going into the 9th the game is over. When the day comes and Mo retires it will be a sad day for Yankee fans and baseball fans alike but, with an ERA of 0.00, 10 saves in 10 chances, 12K's in 15.0 innings and no walks so far this season I think Enter Sandman will still be playing in the 9th for a few more seasons. With 500 carrer saves  and 600 within reach - Rivera is 38 years old - Mo will be around for a few more World Series runs as long as he stays healthy. Joba Chamberlain in the 8th followed by Mariano in the 9th is the best 1-2 punch in the league. GO YANKEES!!!

He is the best closer hands down. Mo is the reason the Yankees  have been  so succesful.

He is the best ever.... and the Yankee with the best attitude by far.  He doffed his cap to the Red Sox Nation in the first game of 2005 after the Red Sox beat him in the playoffs the previous year and the fans were giving him the business.  He's a class act and has no peers at the top of the all time closer ratings.
