I will just throw out my yearly rant on Groh for the same reason I rant on him every year after spring ball. Vic Hall.
I know the guy is a good coach. He is a fantastic coach. He is not a fantastic HEAD coach. He develops players..yes. He can recruit a little...not his fault that kids flame out...he can NOT manage a game. We rode Chris Long's shoulders this season, for the most part in spite of horrible offensive play calling. Al can call defense, but since we lost Musgrave, our offense is laughable at times. Next year is very crucial...here is my rant.
Groh, again, isn't excited about quarterback, yet, we have the Virginia High School league, all-time career total yardage leader on our team...PLAYING CORNER!!!!!
Vic Hall should have gotten a chance at qb. He is every bit as good as Sewell, but not as tall. I don't understand why Groh never looked at Vic Hall and saw Marques Hagans. Did he not ever watch Vic Hall play in HS?? Cedric Peerman played in the same district, no questions about how legit his stats were, but Vic Hall is dismissed. Try him at the slot, when we had no receivers? Nope, we let him get scorched every week playing corner. Granted, he has gotten alot better, but I really see his signing with Virginia as a waste for him.
I can't tell you how that one particular item has irked me the past couple of years. That one move has epitomized Al Groh in my eyes. Vic Hall was an absolutely amazing HS football player. He was listed a couple of places higher than Colt Brennan, Chase Daniel and 13 places ahead of Sewell in scout.com's national rankings of HS qb's, yet he never even got the chance with Groh.
OK, now I'll wait until August to resume this diatribe.
Go HOOS
