I've changed my mind about the idea that pitchers shouldnt bat 8th, like the Brewers and the Cardinals do. Then the pitcher isnt the last out of the inning, but the next batter can get a hit, and you got the top of your lineup for a two-out rally.
Also, then you can have your top hitter bat 3, so that they can maybe get more at bats, and then if your #9 hitter can get a hit, then you have lots of people on base if your #1 and #2 hitter can get a hit.
So Tony Larussa's idea of hitting your pitcher batting 8th is actually quiete good.
