so after reading the threads dedicated to tubby Mike Williams and his efforts to get back into playing shape, I went to

www.titansonline.com

to see the status of our WR's

currently, we have 11 WR's on the roster...let that sink in for a second...11...

the shortest of these WR's is Chris Davis and 5 ft 10 in...and then Lavelle Hawkins at 5 ft 11 in...every other one is 6 ft and above

how do you see this clouded

Fluster Cuck (lol)

playing out?

At the #1, I see Roydell Williams backed up by Mike Williams

#2, I see Justin Gage backed up by Justin McCareins

in the slot, I see Lavelle Hawkins backed up by Brandon Jones

that's 6 active WR's on the team right there...would we possibly keep anymore i.e. Paul Williams and Biren Ealy and Chris Davis??? or the undrafted rookie FA's???

I honestly see Paul Williams being cut.  He was drafted in the 3rd round last year and didn't even suit up for a game.  You have to question why he was selected that high and didn't even see the field.

I'm pushing for Mike Williams to suceed, as I think he'll be a great red zone/possession receiver if he gets his act together. Hopefully he makes the roster with the "improvements" hes made in the offseason.

Gage, Roydell, Hawk, and McCaierens will have guaranteed roster spots, due to the teams investments in them.

So that leaves Ealy and Davis.  Davis was mainly used as a return specialist last season  where he did....ok?  Dinger apparently has a liking to Ealy so I think he'll have a roster spot.

I feel Davis gets cut, making it 7 active WR for the season....too much? perhaps.

Although it is interesting to note that there are only 2 WR under 6 foot height.  Generally the bigger receivers are used to be possession guys while the smaller, quicker guys are going deep.  Seems the Titans have an abundance of posession receivers.

I agree that Paul Williams and Chris Davis could go the way of Joel Filani and all 3 WR's taken in 2007 end up not being on the team 1 year later

that was some horrible scouting and drafting by the Titans in 2007

add those picks to the fact that we reached for fast, straight line runner Chris Henry and we dropped the ball big time.  Well on the offensive side anyway.

Wow, I forgot to mention Brandon Jones in my last post.  Heres the way I see it based on last years performance:

#1-Justin Gage: though not really a #1 receiver on any other team, he was the leading receiver last year and has built some good chemistry with VY

#2-Roydell Williams: shown some improvement and made good plays last year.  Got hurt at the end of the year, but warrants a solid  2nd option for Vince

#3-Justin McCairens: Pretty sure thats where he played in the slot last go around behind Mason and Bennett. He did rather well and I don't see why he wouldn't play here.  Although possible he and Roydell could be interchangable as 2 and 3.

#4-Mike Williams: Really, I'm just rooting for the guy.  I tend to push for the underdog and thats what it seems he is now after being a top 10 pick.  We all know hes not a burner, but supposedly he has hands of glue, which you know we all need.

#5-Lavelle Hawkins: I like the picks the Titans made, but when was the last time the Titans utilized a rookie wide receiver? Tyrone Calico comes to mind but that was minimal at best.  I see Hawk moving his way up the depth chart, but not this year.

#6-Biren Eily: Haven't seen much of him from watching games, but lots of people like him.

I think B-Jones gets cut. He has had his chance and has underachieved a bit.  I'm sure the Titans don't keep more than 6 WR on the active roster.  More depth in OL, DL, and the secondary is needed for injuries and such.  Plus, with the use of double tight sets and such, it'll probably be rare for the Titans to go 5-wide.

After that list, is it possible we would have the worst receiving corp in the league? Maybe the 49ers will give us a run for that title.  Who else has a pretty thin receiving corp??
