these kids were trying to get away not kill him. they took a shot out of fear and ran. they knew him and thought he was out of town. i dont think it should go unpunished and i think a long jail term is whats needed. but life without parole and the death penalty no way its too harsh. they messed up bad. when  a person who gets behind a wheel drunk and kills a family of four. all he gets is invoulintary man slaughter and that guy is usally and adult. they are just kids who have to live with the fact that they killed someone for the rest of their lives. i just feel bad for everyone involved it was so senseless and so stupid.

I kind of agree. Nobody deserves to die, but these are kids. They have 3 years until they can freakin have an alcoholic beverage legally! Put em jail for a long time, and maybe if they show good behavior, let them out when they are elderly

Ok... sure they are kids but they brought a gun. It shows pre-meditation and proves that they were in the frame of mind to kill. They deserve the max sentence.

As long as there is no possible parole for these killers, I am all for life in prison for them. Death would be the easy way out...  they can expect to spend the next 40-60 years behind bars hoping they don't drop the soap.

Let them regret their choices for the next half century instead of getting a quick death. There is a BIG difference between accidentally killing someone and murder.

Play a great FREE football MMORPG to get you through 'till fantasy season starts at:

Getting behind the wheel of a 1.5 ton projectile and hurling down the road at speeds in excess of 30 mph is not an accident.  It's the act of a mad man, a murderer who as no regards for human life.

This is the real tragedy (we as a society) think that a drunk killing someone is just an accident.  It's sad and it sickens me.  Grow up people!

If I told you that you had a 10 times better chance that you'll be killed by a drunk driver than a gun toting thief what would you say?  How about 50 times or 100 times more likely to be killed by a drunk than a career criminal.  Getting the picture yet, these 4 have done the worst thing theyu could ever do in their life.  They are done now, meaningless, even if they walk the street tomorrow they'll no more likely to commit a violent crime than the rest of the country.

But the guy/gal who makes it home from the bar tonight will try again tomorrow and the night after that and so on....

Don't ever compare the two, the drunk driver is more on the level of a serial killer than anything you're writing about.

Ok number one that is the dumbest thing that I have ever heard... according to a survey that my professor quoted 50 to 60 percent of Americans have driven drunk so do you think that they should all be in jail for life? Granted it isn't a smart decision but definitely not on the same level of intentionally harming someone. Accidents are accidents whether or not they are aided by alcohol. In the case of these boys, I do not see their case as a murder, it seems more on the man-slaughter side to me I think they should get 20 years each 10 for manslaughter ten for burglary. Secondly people saying that the death penalty is the easy way out is outrageous. As many of you know the poverty stricken portion of america... the lowest one percent of one percent is better off in jail. It is because of this that I beleive violent crimes would increase dramatically if the death penalty was abolished, the fact that the criminal has that to worry about definitely deters a decent amount of crime.

custudentfan, 1). you're professor is probably a little low in his estimates.

2). putting them in jail would for life, hell! put half of them in jail for life and the rest of you would stop.  According to some of the logic I heard on this board, if we put some of the Drunk Drivers to death we may get everyone to stop!

3). what's not intentional about getting behind a wheel drunk?  you could make other choices, call a cab, walk, call mommy!  No you endanger everyone because...why?

Accidents are: a tire blowing out, your brakes failing, your engine shutting down and someone running into you (you'd probably say they were too close so they're at fault), the steering failing unexpectantly, THAT"S AN ACCIDENT!

If I point a gun at some and pull the tigger it's intentional but what if I'm not trying to shoot them?

Now,  If I drink for 3 hours, beer, shots, etc... walk out the door, unlock my car, climb in, start it up, put it in gear, and move it...what part of that was an accident or unintentional?  OH Wait I get it...it's untentional only when you hit someone!!!!!!

How many times have you done it!!!  When will you stop!!!
