Axe~
I am not arguing this one buddy. I really don't see the dilemma you're talking about.
I'll explain as best I can about what I see. BTW--What you see is just as valid, no question.
Kolb IS the heir-apparent. He was the 2nd Round Draft Choice in a year D-Mac DID NOT finish the season YET AGAIN. It was a an undeniable message to D-Mac and a clear sign pointing towards a new era in Iggle Football..
He (Kolb) will get more snaps undoubtedly this year IF he remains the #2, which I assume he will. He NEEDS to get more snaps due to his perceived status. We fans and the Iggles Organization ALREADY knows what Feeley can/cannot do in this system. I am a big believer in practice makes perfect, but Feeley has been in this system long enough to KNOW what to do if needed. He has been "good" at times and "Miami" like at others. However, he obviously fits better in the Eagles' system. He'll still get his share of practice snaps to be sure.
As far as who is brought out if McNabb gets hurt seems to be best answered by who's more ready to lead/manage the team successfully. That is much too far above my pay grade to give any kind of a concise answer. I am sure Reid, Mornhinwheg, and Shurmur will make the right decision when/if the time comes. I have to, don't I??
As for Kolb's morale, this is but ONE of the many considerations the Iggles will have to take into account IF the situation you describe rears its head. BUT as stated, there are OTHER considerations like experience, readiness, the "it's time" factor, and where we're at in the standings just to name a few. There is a ton to consider, not ONLY his morale. However, I do agree that you do not want to ruin the guy.
I will say this now and prolly be wrong, but here goes:
I DO NOT expect to see Kolb at ALL in this regular season UNLESS it is with a couple of games left and we're COMPLETELY OUT of contention or we're in a blowout game (In the lead or way behind). NEXT year, I think his time is at hand. In other words, "It's time."
I just don't see a dilemma right now. I don't even see the possibility of a dilemma at this time. I think everyone on this team knows their respective roles. Could a dilemma occur? Certainly, but it seems to be a stretch to think that Feeley cares if Kolb's the man KNOWING he was drafted to be just that OR that Kolb cares if Feeley gets the call to KEEP us in contention. Don't get me wrong, I WANT/NEED for Kolb to want that very opportunity, but ultimately it's in the coaches hands---NOT his or Feeley's.
