Do not be afraid, my brother... for these signs have been in the cards for ages... It was but destiny... you are one of us now... Jon, please lead our new member to the center of the circle... stike the goat quickly and cleanly as you say the words "buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack." For you, Phantom, shall never come back...

Being from Iowa you should be familiar with the phrase, "even a blind hog finds an ear of corn now and then".
I love that phrase Phantom.
My old man (from Texas) used to say, "Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then." Cracks me up every time I hear it. I saw it on an old western show one time, cracked me up then too.....except I was, uhhh......altered in the mind a little.

it's annoying...
Indeed Jon, but you'll forgive an old friend's ignorance right?
My steam toward the Chargers is just now starting to build as well. We (the Broncos) have been spanking them for just about their entire existence. In rivalries, don't both teams have to have their share of wins? The only reason I don't like the Chargers now is because of the arrogence and poor-sportsmanship they constantly show to us every time we play......and it is constant. I think they are one of the worst behaved teams, and it starts with the QB and the RB.....both are total punks.
I respect the Raiders and the Chiefs; however, I cannot say the same about the Chargers. Especially since every other team in the West (except the Chargers) has history and championships, yet they run their mouths the hardest? That is where my dislike comes from for the Chargers, and not from stomping playing them for so many years.
On Stink, yeah I agree with you there Jon. He can get a little full of himself (though he was a great linemen), and you would have to expect him to rag on the Raiders a little. BUT....he is even harder on the Broncos, so go figure.

Hawk, I must again claim ignorance on this.....but I don't recall the Chargers ever going to a Superbowl.
In the 70's before we had Elway, we were (and still use the name) the Orange Crush. I think we had tradition before Elway came to town. Don't forget the beer-swilling barrel-man (who sadly just retired). And just in case visiting fans get out of control we have a horse on the field to draw-and-quarter out of control out-of-towners.
Okay I admit I made the last one up, but we have horses that poop real poo on the field, and that has to count for something. I think I heard somewhere that we send the poop to San Diego and they sculpt fans to fill the empty stadium so they can be a "sell-out crowd" on TV, like the Broncos have been for many a moon. Matter of fact don't the Broncos hold the record for sell-out games?

I think Stinky does a good job as well. ESPN is slowly getting a decent group of NFL studio analysts together. Cris Carter is an upgrade if you need that token diva WR type - he seems to have an IQ at least, which is more than you could say about Meshawn Johnson and the Cocaine Cowboy.
I see where you're coming from with Rivers, Lar. He drives me nuts when that jaw starts flapping, too. LT might be getting a little of a bum rap, though. He was mad at the Cheatriots for celebrating / taunting on their logo or whatever and he was a little pouty when he couldn't play in the post-season last year. I don't recall anything out of the ordinary beyond that though. Not trying to be a homer. I really can't remember anything else.
Of course, I have my grudge about the Broncos, too, with that cut block Tom Nalen did to Igor Olshansky's knee in 2006 - during a spike play to stop the clock no less.
Not to start a p i s s i n g match. Just making the point that all teams have their moments where they fall short of the ideal in sportsmanship. And rival fans are sure to notice.

I'd like to forget that Super Bowl, Lar. This might jog your memory.
In the 1994 season, the Chargers made their first and, so far, only Super Bowl appearance, against the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX. They got to the Super Bowl by winning their first six regular season games, the only NFL team to do so in 1994, and finished the season 11-5. Quarterback Stan Humphries and wide receiver Tony Martin combined on a 99-yard touchdown completion to tie an NFL record during a defeat of the Seattle Seahawks, 27-10. They would become the 1994 AFC West Division champions behind a defense led by linebacker Junior Seau, defensive tackles Reuben Davis and Shawn Lee, defensive end Leslie O'Neal and an offense keyed by running back Natrone Means, Humphries and Martin. The Chargers had upset victories over the Dolphins and Steelers in the AFC playoffs. Despite those two close triumphs (22-21 against the Dolphins in the Divisional Round, and 17-13 against the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game), the Chargers lost Super Bowl XXIX to the 49ers, who were led by quarterback Steve Young (Super Bowl MVP) and wide receiver Jerry Rice.

Thank goodness you can take the historical perspective, otherwise after the Shanahan era the Raiders/Broncos thing would be less of a rivalry.
BUT....he is even harder on the Broncos, so go figure
I know what you mean. Rich Gannon does the same | |
