I wish the outlook were rosier, but the Royals will have to do something about their offensive offense before they can contend. They are still one or probably two powerhitters away from contention. So far, Gordon and Butler have proven they are not yet the powerhitters they were "supposed" to be. Guillen has underwhelmed as well. Hopefully, he will get better when the temperature in KC goes up. We'll see.
Hitters need protection, that's why Guillen performed so well in Anaheim when he was hitting in front of Vlad. He did well in Seattle hitting in front of Beltre. Pitchers make pitches to people batting ahead of the powerhitters so they don't have to face the big bats. Kansas City's lineup doesn't strike fear in the hearts of many pitchers in the A.L.
I wish we had moved to the NL West during expansion. Oh well. Here's hoping the Royals can convince a bopper to come to KC and make the likes of Gordon, Butler, Dejesus and teahen better hitters.
